Encounter with Munro Boyle and Islwyn's Commando
General Summary
Session took place on 9-12-2022
Players present: Sam, Chris, Kristin, Katie, Kelly
The party picked up a new member, Vanovar, an elven bard in White Bridge, Temeria. The party decided to make for the Gap of Insch per the inn keeper's advice.
However, upon approaching they discovered a Temerian army unit recently attacked by Scoia’tael. The leader, Munro Boyle advised them that they could only pass unless they helped degrade the elven commando unit by at a minimum killing the leader Islwyn.
The party tracked and successfully discovered the unit. Vanovar parlayed with Islwyn, only to find that Munro had killed the commando unit’s families. Islwyn counter offered: Work together to eliminate Boyle.
The party eventually agreed and pretended that they had captured Islwyn alive to bring back for Munro’s pleasure of dealing with him.
The sun was low and the rain was falling as Islwyn and the party marched into the Temerian outpost. Boyle and his company cheered as they saw the elf leader bound. However, it was short lived. Islwyn gave the signal and moments later dead Temerians lay about, ambushed by Scoia’tael arrows.
Munro watched in horror as the Witcher and Zane dispatched two more of his men.
Ronin took advantage of the sudden onslaught. Dual wielding daggers, the first got the leader to defend high. The second dagger bit deep into his chest cavity through the exposed and unarmored armpit. The blade reached his heart and he died almost instantly, his familiy’s name on his dying breath. The Scoia’tael chased the routed Temerians leaving the party alone to search and then proceed into the Mahakam Mountains.
A journal belonging to Munro revealed the rest of the story: Islwyn’s commando had killed Munro’s family in the second war 6 years ago as they tried fleeing Aldersberg. A surviving member told him what happened. When he found out 3 months ago from the present that Islwyn was operating in Temeria, he and his unit deserted the Temerian army on his personal vendetta and eventually slaughtered the elves families in retribution.
