Wine Festival

It's not just about drinking, oh no! It's about enjoying the events, and eating good food, and spending time with your friends and family — all while tasting the countless sorts of wine this island has to offer.
Once a year, most of Dedlan Island goes silent and empty. Everyone presently on the island, with rare exceptions, gathers in a single area. On the outskirts of the capital city, New Halgroud, there would be a conglomeration of tents, wagons and temporary structures. All sorts of vendors open up their stalls, while comedians compete for the public's attention. Artists come to sell their works and also teach master classes to the people attending.   All those festive activities, however, are not the primary object of the event. Dedlan Island is famous for its wines, which the island's entire culture revolve around. In fact, there is hardly a family on this island that is not involved in some way with one of its many wineyards. And when the day comes, all of that wine is brought to the festival.   All visitors pay a flat entrance fee, receiving the right to taste any of the wines present. Each of them also gets a set number of special tokens depicting a grape vine. Visitors are expected to award those tokens to the wines they enjoyed the most. When the festival is over, all sorts of wine are ranked based on how many tokens they received, which usually determines their prices for the next year. It also affects one's reputation as a winemaker. In addition, there are special awards for the highest number of tokens awarded to a single wine and the highest number of tokens total.

Cheating

Sometimes, winemakers pay other people to give tokens to their wines. If caught, this is always harshly punished in a form of huge fines or temporarily ban from the festival.

The "Worst" Award

Every year, the governor signs a new supply contract for the wine used in prison and during executions. This contract is traditionally offered to the festival's worst-performing sort of wine and, while generous in price, is considered to be the lowest point possible for any self-respecting winemaker.

Hahaha, I love that they pick the worst-performing wine to use in prisons and at executions. That's a great detail.   Sounds like a really awesome festival. The token systen is a cool idea, and I love that it determines the price of the wines for the next year. :)

Thanks! Yes, getting served the absolute worst wine on the island that is basically one big wineyard is, in a way, considered to be part of the punishment xD
