Gollanhad's Pact

It must've been one hell of a tough decision for Gollanhad. He had a choice between losing the island he was entrusted with and causing the High King's wrath, or caving in to the local elites and incurring the High King's wrath nonetheless. Well, the end result seems pretty much the same for him, doesn't it? And so, Gollanhad made what he thought was the right thing to do, earning himself eternal respect by the island's citizens.
Bradley Gollanhad was the governor of Sol Meridia when it was attacked and nearly conquered by the Ardenian Empire. During the Siege of Sol Meridia, as the invasion was later called, governor Gollanhad agreed to give the island a lot of autonomy by establishing the Benevolent Council and entrusting the island militia with defending the island. In return, the influential families, guilds and other communities promised to commit all their men and ships to the island's defences against the advancing forces of the Ardenian Empire.   The battle ended up in favour of the defenders, after which Bradley Gollanhad had to travel back to the Old World and present the document before the High King Thomas Gilroy. Despite fears of many on the island, and due to the reasons that are still not entirely clear, Thomas Gilroy did confirm his governor's signature by putting his own on the document as well, making it an official agreement between the Kingdom of Eire and the newly-formed Benevolent Council. The document specifies the rights and obligations of the Benevolent Council as the organisation aiding the Sol Meridia's governor in managing everyday affairs, as well as the order of deciding on its members.
