Amberglow Caravan

Led by Lanta , an elderly and extremely shrewd halfling businesswoman, the Amberglow Caravan is a collection of traders with the common purpose of travelling the roads of the Empire and beyond. Named after the major road on which it was founded, the main core of the Caravan will typically travel from Nicodranas to Rexxentrum and back again, meeting at the Amber Crossroads for the Carnival of Coin each spring and harvest.   The Caravan is never the same from town to town, or from crossroad to crossroad. Traders will come and go as their business dictates, using the Caravan as a place to share stories and warnings, and travel with protection. Tithes to Lanta and are encouraged, but not enforced - you get what you put into the Caravan, and those who skimp on tithes will soon notice the difference with being left at the back, given the poor plots, or in some cases, even being left entirely in the early morning.   The Caravan has some key 'residents' who rarely leave the core of the Caravan:
  • Lanta, the leader of the collective.
  • Naedanye, an elven woman, Lanta's main intermediary in the major cities.
  • Sacesu, a burly ravenite dragonborn with brassy scales, often in half-plate and with a range of weaponry.
  • Favor, a red-skinned tiefling, usually in well-worn leathers. There's very little that happens that escapes her notice.
  • Theo Kehlmann, a human alchemist, partially Naedanye's apprentice, but only in the sense that he needs a bit of patient mentoring to make sure he doesn't concoct something too crazy.

Into the Wildlands

It's rare for the Caravan to travel so far North. The tithes required to cross Quannah Breach are significant, as are the risks of having to pass through Shadycreek Run. Not to mention Uthodurn itself is typically a 40 day journey from the borders into the mountains if you haven't invested in good carts and horses.   Lanta has both carts and horses well in hand, and the tithes for the border have been covered by her commissioner for this trip. She has chosen the closest of her main Caravan to join her North (Sacesu, Favor and Theo), leaving the rest of the Caravan in the capable hands of Naedanye, an elvish woman who handles most of Lanta's business in the major cities.   As part of the agreement for joining the caravan, most travellers will contribute to the caravan's security, and take watches on rotation with Sacesu and Favor.
  • Sacesu and Favor take the lead on their robust wagon drawn by Foxfire, a very large chestnut draft mare with a sour face. A second horse, a dark bay gelding by the name of Conker, also accompanies this wagon, tethered to the front of the wagon.
  • Lanta follows with her personal wagon, much smaller than the others yet somehow manages to store an awful lot more. The wagon is drawn by Buttercup, an unusually large goat.
  • Theo also has a personal cart that doubles as his shop, though whenever they stop to rest, he sleeps on the armoured wagon with Favor and Sacesu. On one side the cart looks like a typical (albeit well-made) trader cart, with a well-crafted sign and the hooks and poles on the side used to draw out a canvas roof when pitched. On the other side is a large metal chimney, an array of windows with different shutter types of alternating colours. The cart also has the ability to be fully opened from the front and back - as if to have plenty of airflow in the event of experiments gone awry. The cart is pulled by a sturdy roan pony called Triton.
  • Your caravan brings up the rear, the largest wagon, which can carry all six of you relatively comfortably (two on the front seat with one driving, the rest in the wagon with the side windows open to watch the plains roll by). At night, there are three bunks on the caravan; those not on watch and not in a bunk sleep under the wagon for some extra shelter. Your cart is pulled by two light bay draft horses, Ranger and Sparkle.
