Fall of Salmacis - Interlude

"Those of you who were with us for the White Reach campaign will remember what happened the last time a base of ours came under attack. And will also remember what happened... we sent them packing! We lived through it! We are Priam Company. We survived the Legion of Vega, we survived the Twenty-Second Skye, and we will survive this!"
— Commander Olivia Garrido

During the day after the encounter with Sol's Star and the Clan Jade Falcon forces, Priam Company undertook several tasks to prepare. Commander Olivia Garrido had the technicians start preparing the BattleMechs for combat, while undertaking repairs on the two survivors of Xiphos Lance. Several specific and special orders were given to the Lance commanders, to be quietly given to their 'MechWarriors in preparation of what was to come. On the following day, she made her intent known to the whole mercenary outfit as a whole.

Considering there was an invasion force already on the way, and a communications blackout still prevented collaboration with the local militia, the situation was looking rather grim. According to all known information thus far, no planet has managed to stand against the invaders. After reviewing the BattleROM data from Xiphos Lance, Commander Garrido did not like their chances of managing it. Therefore she intended to evacuate Salmacis and give it up to the invaders, taking all essential hardware with them. BattleMechs which were meant to act as a line of defense against invaders would not be taken with them unless there was enough time to do so, meaning there would be a lot of useful equipment left behind. However, non-combatants and personnel would be given priority before materiel, to leave as few people to the mercy of the Clans as possible. Following this briefing, a tension began to build and morale became relatively fragile. Most of Priam Company personnel were veterans, but none of them had been party to a decision quite like this. With everyone on edge, when action came it would be either a relief or terrible.

Medical Recovery

Medical Care: Ellen Raster and "Vandal" Grey are both suffering from bruises and muscle strain as a result from damage applied directly to the heads of their BattleMechs. Sofia Garrido is suffering mild exhaustion due to her "marathon run" from the combat area back to an area she could be recovered by perimeter patrols. Owing to the light nature of their wounds, and the necessarily complex situation regarding potential combat, Commander Garrido has ordered Caduceus Team Beta to treat the 'MechWarriors so they can be unhindered in combat effectiveness.

(House Ruling: The medics will be able to temporarily alleviate the wounds suffered. These wounds will be suffered again after combat as a sign of fatigue. These "reopened wounds" cannot escalate a 'MechWarrior to being killed. These three 'MechWarriors may not be used again until they can recover all wounds, including these "reopoened wounds". A success on the current recovery roll is to grant a -2 bonus to the Target Number when it is time to test for a full recovery; this is only applicable when healing the final wound and thus returning to active duty.)

Caduceus Team Beta (Medical Skill 8)

Medical Checks
Sofia Garrido: 1 Wound (TN:8) (Result: 9; Success) Ellen Raster: 1 Wound (TN: 8) (Result: 7; Failure) "Vandal" Grey: 1 Wound (TN: 8) (Result: 5; Failure)

Summary: 'Mechwarrior Garrido experiences a significantly positive reaction to treatment while Lance Commander Raster and Specialist Grey both are only marginally improved. Stimulants and analgesics are being made available until the conclusion of the current situation.

Damage Control

Repair Cycle: The technicians have a total of eight hours of work time available to be assigned repair tasks. This is not necessarily an indication of exactly how much time is spent, but rather an indication of how much time is expected to be available to work with any unexpected 'over-runs' on their time.

Location: As the Salmacis Base 'Mech Bays are a major investment of time and money, they possess nearly a complete spectrum of tools needed for work on their 'Mechs. The previous head technician had spent extra time generating work procedures for "rigging replacements" in the event an exact match cannot be found, allowing new teams to adapt quickly. (As 'Maintenance Facility', -2 to Target Number.)

Overtime: Commander Garrido has authorized overtime for the most experienced team, "Sand's Lot", who are also on hand to share their expertise with the other teams. Two other tech teams took advantage of the overtime pay, one of which was responsible for preparing most of the 'Mechs for combat duty. Working overtime expands the available repair time from eight hours to twelve hours, but also means that team is unavailable for further repairs until they have a chance to recover from fatigue.

Replacement Parts: Due to a lack of authorized replacement parts, the Victor's Autocannon/20 and SRM 4 launchers are being replaced with viable alternatives. (Result: +1 to Target Number.)

List of Technical Teams

All technical teams at Salmacis are specialized for BattleMechs, meaning they require greater effort to do tasks for other unit types. However, this is not necessarily a drawback since many of the vehicles are relatively easy to prepare for combat action.

  • Tech Team A. Nicknamed "Sand's Lot", this team is an Elite team and has been with the outfit since its inception. The nickname refers back to the first head technician who worked for Priam Company, whispered about as a 'goddamn legend' among those technicians who came after. The team is incredibly knowledgable about the 'Mechs Priam Company uses, and their quirks, and so are an undisputed asset. They have been assigned to work overtime.
  • Tech Team B. A veteran team of 'Mech repair personnel, this team is normally assigned to handle routine tasks related to Sagittarius Lance. However, they are more than capable of handling a variety of repair tasks outside of the most laborious. For instance, they would not be asked to perform limb replacement or engine refits.
  • Tech Team C. Another veteran 'Mech team, this crew has been assigned overtime so they can handle the Black Knight exclusively. This leaves them with almost no time to spare, but they were able to fit all the needed tasks into the work schedule.
  • Tech Team D. This tech team has been assigned to prepare all other 'Mechs for combat, and are undertaking overtime in order to ensure all ammunition is loaded and weapons are ready. Or, rather, as ready as they can be.
  • Tech Team E. Due to being skilled in many aspects of BattleMech repair, this team is often reserved for meticulous work such as replacing limbs or weapons which have been damaged beyond any hope of restoration.
  • Tech Team F. Relatively new to Priam Company, this tech team has not yet learned various tricks to make their tasks easier. They operate at a 'Regular' skill level, and primarily are employed for routine tasks like replacing damaged armor.

    Entry Format
    First line.
  • Location. (The location of the repair task to be completed.)
  • Damaged Component. (Which component needs to be repaired, and how.)
  • Base Time Required. (This is how long the task will take normally to be completed.)
  • Second Line.
  • Assigned Tech Team. (Which tech team is assigned to do the task, their skill level, and what the base Target Number will be.)
  • Task Modifier. (Each object has a varied complexity. Some are easier to repair than others.)
  • Time Modifier. (Teams can take double or triple time to avoid mistakes.)
  • Location Modifier. (Having a good workspace makes repairs easier, while having a makeshift arrangement will make it harder.)
  • Target Number. (The final result of all modifiers added to the tech team's skill.)

Summary: While most repairs have been completed with the proper care, a minor snag caused problems repairing the internal structure of the Black Knight's head. As such, it remains having 2 damage scored on it for the next battle. Three of the six technician teams are overworked due to the application of overtime, and are restricted to light duties only for the following week.

In the meantime, ammunition has been prepared in all BattleMechs and combat vehicles. All critical materials, meanwhile, have been stored in crates and loaded onto the Black Eagle-class DropShip. Assistance has also arrived from unforeseen sources, as a Fortress-class DropShip bearing a helpful veteran has offered to help out in exchange for refueling and rearming. On top of that, two JumpShips and a number of Leopard-class DropShips have arrived at a Jump point close enough to the planet to make it possible to escape once everything is ready.

Just in time for the arrival of Clan Jade Falcon.
