"A dog and a flame - Part II, Ashes on the wind"

Wildfire was getting closer and closer to researchers, and flames followed her. Her gaze focused on one of the researchers. Her smile widened if that was even possible, and a new emotion showed up on her face. It was the face of someone deeply in love.   "My love, why have you leave me alone?" she spoke. Something was terrifying in how sweetly she said those words.   The scientists looked at their friend. He was as confused as they were. All four of them must have remembered their survival instinct because they all started running towards Kundel.   Seeing that her lover tries to escape, Wildfire closed the distance between them in an instant. As the fiery inferno was swirling around them, she turned him around and looked him in the eyes. The parts of his clothing she touched burned. He screamed in pain, but she silenced him.   "Now, we'll be together forever," she giggled. As those words left her mouth, his face changed its expression. It showed content.   "Yes, my dear. I came back to you," he answered softly.   His body started burning from inside. In a matter of seconds, his skin turned completely black and started crumbling. All that was left of him was ash.   Wildfire, still smiling, turned her head towards the scientists. Her eyes focused on the closest one.   "My love, why did you run there?"   Understanding the horror of what just happened and what could happen in a second, both the researchers and Kundel ran into the stairwell and started to scale the stairs down.   Not a moment passed when the burning hell manifested itself above them.   "I got you!" Kundel heard behind, screams of another captured lover feeling the building. As before, they soon turned into warm words.   The dog-that-should-be-dead left the stairwell on the second floor instead of running farther down. Kundel followed it, one of the researchers ran behind him, while the other decided to continue his escape on the stairs. It turned out to be a bad decision as Wildfire chose him as her next target.   But because he led her wrong way, both Kundel and the last one of their group had a few seconds where her attention wouldn't be focused on them. The dead dog started clawing at the door to one of the flats.
Kundel aimed near the doorknob and kicked the door. Thankfully, they were pretty shoddy, more ply- than wood, and a second kick made a hole in them that let Kundel reach the lock mechanism.   The two men ran inside, still no sign of the fiery lady. Kundel looked at his dog. The creature turned its gaze towards the window. The guide opened it and looked down.   Of course, he thought to himself. This should work.   He took off his backpack and took out the rope. As he was tying it to the sofa, he explained his plan to the other survivor.   "Right outside the window, on the ground, there is a slight spacial anomaly. It changes the distance between two points, so it can be used as a shortcut. The only downside, we don't know where it will lead us. But as far as I'm stabilizing this place, it should lead both of us to the same place. There, we'll figure out what to do."   He tied the other side of the rope to the scientist.   "Now, climb down. This could be our only chance to escape her."   The researcher nodded and gulped. He went through the window and started his climb while Kundel belayed him. Not a moment has passed since started, they both could hear the sound of fire crackling, getting closer and closer. Both of them sped up.   When the scientist reached the ground floor level, he screamed. Kundel felt that the rope suddenly lost all of its tension. He ran to the window and looked out, only to see how Wildfire holds the burning survivor in her arms, and both of them are falling. As soon as they both touched the anomaly, they both disappeared. Only ash and the smell of the burning flesh and building were left.   Kundel sat down, defeated.
No matter how many times he tried and how many times he lost, he failed. Again
The curse won. Again.
He was the only one who survived.   Again.
