Drecksack District

The Drecksack District is generally recognised as the most dangerous district in Altdorf. Not the mention the poorest, filthiest and cheapest area of the city. Most of the buildings in this area of wooden framed and plaster filled, unfortunately the whole area is very low level ground sitting at the foot of Crackle Hill and almost level with the banks of the river Talabec which runs along its western border. Consequently, the area is frequently flooded during heavy rain which not only regularly birsts the banks of the river but also runs down the slopes of Crackle Hill. This means that not only are the streets filthy but also because most of the cobbles have been lifted for use as missiles during the frequent riots and protests they are also mostly mud. This in turn means that most of the wooden buildings are damp rotten and sagging towards the street. It is not unusal for them to collapse altogther.   The notable exception are the few buildings like 'The Cock Pit' Tavern whose owners have the money to keep their buildings in good repair. But they tend to be the exception rather than the rule.   The other notable exception are the few stone built buildings that exist in the area. Rumopu has it that the Grand Prince of the Reikland tried to palm this area of the city off to the dwarfs in an effort to repeat the success of his contemporary in the City of Nuln. The Countess Emmanuelle successfully gifted the dwarf community of Nuln with the worst area of her city, the infamous 'Seven Points Rookery' and discovered to her delight that the dwarfs not only pacified the district but built a stunning fortress on the spot called Midghal-Bar. It is believed that the Grand Prince of the Reikland hoped for a similar success by gifting the dwarfs of Altdorf with the Drecksack.   Unfortunately, it didn't work.   The dwarfs did beging to clear the area and replace the mould wooden tenements with solid stone buildings. But they soon relaised that building solid stome buildings on a bog merely resulted in the buildings slowly sinking into the mud, and after years of frustration trying to drain the area and shore up their buildings the dwarfs finally gave up and abandoned the Drecksack as a waste of space moving their entire community to the higher ground on the opposite bank of the Talabec and building exactly the same buildings using the same plans and some of the same stone on that side of the river.   As a consequence one can still find abandoned stone buildings in some areas of the Drecksack that are slowly sinking into the mud, covered with moss and creepers and missing most of their roofs and windows. They look abandoned but in fact 'The Grey Order were happy to exploit the apparent ruins as the College of the Grey Order and whilst its hard to beleive this is where they exit. Though good luck finding anyone at home as the Grey Order are not fond of unexpected visitors and people have been know to wander for hours through the ruins without finding any trace of any occupants.
