Dragon's Den Valley Geographic Location in Westhammer | World Anvil

Dragon's Den Valley

Dragon's Den Valley got its name for several dragon-like fossils found in the area, but this is not what the region is best known. The region is best known for having lots of gold and lots of death.

Localized Phenomena

The area is routinely haunted by Civil War ghosts. It is rumored that more ancient darker things also haunt the area.   It is also rumored to be the nesting grounds for skaven, beastmen, or other non-mystical threats.

Natural Resources

Gold is a known resource of the area. Magic is a suspected but unproven resource.

History

At some point the president of Hammerica wanted to map every corner of the west and the first explorers found several dragon-like fossils in caves near the surface.   This was viewed as interesting curiosity but very little more. Due to its remote location, few follow up explorers visited, but a few mystically ambitious magic hunters and scientifically minded naturalists tried to dig up more fossils, and in doing so rich veins of gold were discovered by accident.   This attracted a large number of prospectors. It was noteworthy that there were a lot of violent claim jumpers and a lot of people murdered for their claims. But things became more violent very fast.   During the Hammerican Civil War, due to a serious of unorthodox military choices and some unlikely coincidences, a large group of soldiers on both sides bumped into each other in the Dragon's Den Valley by accident and had a very bloody battle that had no real impact on the wider war but spiritually scarred the local landscape.   The area remains haunted by the ghosts of civil war soldiers on moonless nights. The area still attracts daring gold prospectors.

Tourism

The "dragon bones" are actually dinosaur bones, and this represents an ancient battle by the ancestors Rangos and the rangos still seem to be keeping an eye on the area though they don't mingle with the milk suckers and their gold mining.
