Umbra

"If ye wish to have power and serve with purpose, then you have my blessing. But know this, i may call upon you for in a time of need."   -King Umbra after bestowing every knight.

Effect

Based on the concept of The Black Knight in literature and fiction, the Umbra power grants anonymity, strength, semi-invulnerability and stamina while also boosting combat skills. Wielders also can gain any number of powers centered on darkness. This comes when the user gains several years of experience.

Side/Secondary Effects

Because of the primary effects, the force also makes the user become an ideal self regardless of age and initial health. There is also a resistance to mind control.

Manifestation

It manifests over the user's body or armor. It seems to use typical warrior getups relative to the user's era, culture, and frame of reference. A Canadian user has stated that when he received his he assumed something akin to a fairytale or an arthurian legend. Other instances have include an african warrior, a lineage of samurai warriors and a user who empowered their space ship.

Source

The power comes from the Fracian god of darkness. Though his reasons and origins are often unknown to those he blesses. What is known is that he chooses those who with a code of ethics and will turn into a user's opponent if they go to far into the evil or toxic. He also can revoke those powers as well.   It is unknown where if the power source came directly from his divinity or some other source he controls or has access to and has refused to elaborate. What is known however is that the power has been described as internal and felt within the person.

Discovery

Typically a user gets summoned to the Throne of King Umbra and are granted their powers. Users act as a champion of the god, of good or of a personal cause. It has been noted that due to King Umbra being a morally ambiguous satanic figure of a nearly long dead religion, he is aware of power hungry individuals seeking power for tyranny and will usually screw over those first. It has been noted that many a Black Knight go through a series of trials before being granted the power of King Umbra.
It has been shown that the enchantment can be replicated. Darkness based defense and anonymity spells do exist and most replications use this as a basis. The stamina, strength and combat spells is annexed to the darkness enchantment in such a way that it all can be called upon at once. The level of invulnerability depends on the defense spell. One can also enchant most armours in darkness. As of the 20th century, nobody has completely replicated the Umbra spell nor know where the king got the spell or the source.   This is how anybody who's magic savy can get something like the Umbra power. Not surprisingly main evil, vile or plain old jerks have used this for their own, usually selfish, ends. A good number of these people are those the King will not chose as a champion. The only sure fire way to obtain the power is to somehow trap the king and use his power without consent just like the wizard from long ago.

Applied Restriction
The power is not restricted by good or evil nor lawful or chaotic. The only moral restriction is that duty and servitute must be chosen instead of forced upon. This is a double edge sword as the enchantment will be not work if it's unwilling or is forced to do it but allows resistance to mind control, though it isn't impossible with a strong enough magic or disenchantment. King Umbra is also fine with moral ambiguity and moral complexity but won't allow horrendous evil or monstrous to take on the role of a knight. Another rule of the enchantment is that the user must have some sort of code or ethic for it to work, usually a warrior's ethos will work like bushido, chivalry or the oath a modern soldier would use. A Black Knight's code doesn't have to align with current society, they just have to believe it be right or reasonable. It has been shown that a person with little standards or none will not have the powers work. The last known caveat is the opponent rule, where a user becomes destined to be an opponent. The opponent can be anything from a champion of a medieval kingdom, a corporate executive, a friend or something personal. Oddly enough, revelry or constant combat isn't a restriction.
