Echo

Echo was a young male kenku who served in the Compliance Division of the Waterdeep Bureau of Municipal Affairs, the city’s administrative body responsible for infrastructure, guild labor coordination, and municipal code enforcement. He worked alongside Overseer Call of a Bird and her first assistant Voxi, a forest gnome.
Echo’s role was to repeat any directions or citations from Call of a Bird that Voxi might miss while transcribing. Using his kenku mimicry, he ensured that nothing Birdie said, no matter how fast or technical, went undocumented. Though soft-spoken and professional, Echo’s body language often revealed discomfort with his boss’s harsh tone and unforgiving standards.
While inspecting the Frightened Ferret during its renovation, Echo vanished. The party later discovered his dismembered leg in the cellar, moments before being attacked by a mimic disguised as a vinegar barrel. The scene suggested Echo had been killed and partially eaten by the creature. A large rat, unusually intelligent and filled with apparent malice, seemed to be directing the attack.
When Voxi learned of Echo’s death, she was visibly shaken but too afraid of Call of a Bird to grieve properly. Birdie, unmoved, immediately ordered Voxi to request a replacement. The cold response deepened the party’s disdain for her bureaucratic callousness. Jonnie, in particular, was horrified by the lack of empathy.
Echo’s death was reported to the City Watch.
