Aiyonia Character in Wartorn | World Anvil

Aiyonia

The Mother of All, The Eternal, The Font of Life.

Aiyonia is the oldest of the deities and also the most powerful. In fact she claims to be the very first goddess. It is certain that she predates the Great Purge by a long stretch and seems to have come through it more or less intact when almost every other god suffered varying degrees of harm. Indeed the only other god to come through the Purge unscathed is Tremo whom she cradled in her arms while the world came apart around them. Many wonder what possible use a goddess of Love is in a world so often plagued by cruelty, hardship and war. Aiyonia's followers point to the aforementioned display of power and answer: "apparently, quite a lot!".

Beyond being the first deity The Font of Life also claims to be the mother of all other gods. Most people discard the notion as a simple brag and a virtual impossibility. After all most gods have ascended from mortal status. Still the goddess maintains that even the new ascendants are her children. When pressed on the matter her clergy points to aspects of other gods like Gar's love of motherhood, Kilven's love of roaming or Valya's love of wealth as traits inherited directly by The Mother of All. It is also worth pointing out that no other god has directly renounced that assertion.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Nothing particular. The Mother of All has no one specific symbol but can be represented by absolutely anything a follower deems appropriate.

Tenets of Faith

The Mother of All has love for everyone and everything but makes no demands on anyone. Most of her followers try to emulate their goddess to the best of their abilities and attempt to demonstrate similar behavior. The Font of Life's domain encompasses all aspects of love. This includes romantic and platonic love, the love between siblings, innocent and passionate love, the love of a mother, even unrequited love. But it goes beyond just the feeling of love to also include the act as an all important aspect of the faith. The most devout of her followers try to immerse themselves in as many forms of love as they can. They are always looking for new ways to experience love and try to spread this knowledge to others.

It is important to note that in Aiyonia's faith love is always considered a positive thing, not a way to manipulate or torment and certainly not as a cause for unhappiness. Given how easy it is to lose one's way in the pursuit of new ways to love, the goddess's priests are responsible for guiding the faithful and pointing out when they overstep. The Eternal's temples are places of refuge and healing not just from ailments of the body but also the heart. Members of the clergy are always ready to offer expert advice, a soothing massage, a sexual experience, or a simply a shoulder to cry on.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Aiyonia admits to having no other goal than to allow everyone to be happy. And that means everyone. The goddess makes no exception or distinction or even judgement for that matter. She considers everyone her child and so she accepts any follower, any gift, any dedication and if warranted any apology. Based on that outlook it seems to many that The Mother of All is a naive deity ripe for exploitation, too forgiving and thus vulnerable to treachery. These people fail to consider the extent of The Eternal's power, experience and imagination. Although she is not overly concerned by such petty plots against her, the goddess has repeatedly shown an aptitude for knowing one's heart, and when the occasion has arisen she has taken steps to address affronts that were deemed too much. For example, a favored tactic employed usually against those who dismiss the value of love to the extent of giving offence is to make all love in their life into the unrequited kind.
