The city’s history is marked by its resilience and strategic importance, playing a crucial role in various conflicts and serving as a gateway between Bastia and Lerancutia.

  • Dofi (50%): The Dofi are the largest and most influential ethnic group in Hardtnau, known for their rich history, vibrant arts, and strong sense of community. They are predominantly loyal to the monarchy and hold key positions in government, business, and academia.
  • Neboth (20%): The Neboth are characterized by their close connection to nature, spirituality, and traditional practices. They often reside in rural areas around Hardtnau, engaging in agriculture, animal husbandry, and artisanal crafts. Politically, they favor decentralized power and are generally critical of the monarchy, preferring the divine appointment of leaders.
