Primer in Vyril | World Anvil

Primer

"Finding Vyril was never intentional. Stumbling upon the vast plane of too many people, in too much land of an age beyond count, was one of the larger fortunate accidents of my life. When one steps through a portal to another world, it's usually dark. Possibly a dense atmosphere, or even a dead, grey landscape of nothing.

There's plenty here. I will likely spend hundreds of lifetimes cateloguing and learning its secrets. That there is that much to discover at all is the most exciting."
- Prime Archivist Murdomase, date unknown
Several continents and hundreds of islands dot the surface of Vyril, where a multitude of kingdoms, nations, and empires have staked some claim to the land. Even more monsters and untamed wilds stretch out between them all. Attempts have been made to map the entirety of Vyril, and no two map is quite the same. Dangerous oceans, wild mountain ranges, and unpredictable magic can make creating something precise almost impossible.

Vyril is a place meant to be as culturally and racially diverse as can be. With aquatic, subterranean, monstrous, and magical peoples of all sorts living beside one another - and the conflicts that creates. The history of Vyril is long, and most forgotten or faded, while the plane continues ever forward in a cycle of growth, destruction, and rebirth. Always changing, with new gods ascending to replace the old, and entire civilizations fading into memory.

“People... like to invent monsters and monstrosities. Then they seem less monstrous themselves. When they get blind-drunk, cheat, steal, beat their wives, starve an old woman, when they kill a trapped fox with an axe or riddle the last existing unicorn with arrows, they like to think that the Bane entering cottages at daybreak is more monstrous than they are. They feel better then. They find it easier to live.”

The Cultivators of Vyril

To know the Fey is to understand Vyril. The origin race of the plane, older than any memory. Even their own. Time is nigh meaningless to these true immortals, who blink at the lifespan of self-proclaimed gods and have watched the rise and fall of eons and dynasties.

Despite it all, they contain themselves largely to a three island archepeligo they named the Navithesk Empire . Open to all, home to many, but widely known that it is the Fey who rule here. And will long after so many have been forgotten.

Navithesk Empire
Home to the Fey , the Navithesk Empire is a collection of tropical, jungle islands located near the equator of Vyril. The various cities around Navithesk are interwoven in the jungle. The Empire is a trade hub, welcome to races from all across Vyril of every creed and color. So long as they obey the laws of the Fey.
Bordered by the Sea of Discord to the west and the Sea of Opportunity to the east, the Yukulta Islands stretch north, and the continent of Lossul is directly south.
