SM18 - One More and We're Even

General Summary

The Phoenix Four defeated Evylai and successfully returned all of the tavern patrons to Vrashyn.

Turn Around

For a time, the fight appeared to be going badly for the party, but they were able to carry the day after Tikvah turned most of the undead enemies. Evylai was last to fall. Before apparently dying, he told Nyssa that there would be "one more, then we're even."

Out of the Darkness

After tracking down the twins that Pemma and Evylai impersonated (both were tied up in different closets), Tikvah returned all the tavern patrons to Vrashyn via Gate. The party also finalized their trade with Kasha despite the Half-Elf's inability to stop them had they decided to walk away with both the Black Book and the Crown of Andafirin. Now crown-less, they returned to The Grapevine's headdquarters.

And Into the Light

Rather than trying to seek out Pemma in the tavern, the party correctly surmised that the Changeling would find them. Pemma trailed them to The Grapevine's building, then proceeded to explain why she was at the tavern in the first place. Pemma suspected her correspondence with Tana was being tampered with after seeing Az's bloody fingerprint on one of the letters. Unknown to the party due to memory loss, Pemma had been researching how to decipher the Black Book. A quick flashback revealed that the party had been given the book at a party after the Invasion of Senlimas that Pemma also attended.

A Couple on a Lake

Pemma initially had some difficulty with the book but was eventually able to get it to display an image. To read the book, she embedded gold coin fragments that Andy crushed for her into her hand, which she shaped into dozens of thin tendrils that allowed her to trace the necessary patterns. The first page created an image of two humanoids lying on the side of a lake. One of them left the embrace of the other to skip a stone on the water's surface. Suddenly, a black protrusion shot out from the water and dragged them into the lake.

Your surroundings are reminiscent of the city you left. However, the few buildings you can see in the darkness are in a state of disrepair, with some collapsed in on themselves. The air smells of rot and the sun, now low in the sky, is merely a faint grey circle behind a thick layer of black clouds. Apart from the occasional groans of the injured from inside, there is no sound.
