The tale of two Shadow Cities

Beneath the surface of what is now known as the Continent of Ageron lie two cities long forgotten by man. Much that has been written about their existence has been washed away by the great storms. Timeless much like Voltera herself these cities were the home of and ruled by the Fey. The Cities Names still carry out a melodic sound when spoken in the Sylvan tongue.   The First of these Wonderous Underground cities was Beldorah is said to be located deep within the earth below what is now known as the Dreadwood. The other wonderous City is known as Nythwynnir and it is said to lie Deep within the Earth below the Storm Range and Shadow Range mountains its entrance someplace within the Geothermal Rift known as the Gash. Both of these cities although ruled by Fey remained Unaligned or Neutral to sometimes dramatic or complicated alliances of the Seelie and Unseelie Fey that Ruled the lands above. These cities were ruled by the people referred to as the Drow.   Much about these cities has been lost by humankind but there are tales and even documentation of smaller Drow communities deep below the earth throughout Voltera. Many believe that these are remnants or ancestors that fled the downfall of these two wondrous cities. Many of the Drow since the downfall of these two great cities have become less and less frequent visitors to the surface of Voltera clinging to more secluded or secretive lives often mistrustful of surface dwellers as a betrayal by people from the surface led to the downfall of these two great cities. People on the surface are often suspicious and mistrustful of the Drow mainly because of their nature of seclusion and disinterest in the affairs of the Fey lords and Human Kings under the Skies of Voltera and their almost Stoic nature to remain Neutral to the political swings of the upper world.
What lore is known from songs and tales about Beldorah is that the City fell by a way of betrayal from a Fey Sorceress by the name of Nightshade. Urldrin Aleduis Duke of Beldorah and the last known ruler of the Fabled City became enamored with the Charms of the Fey Sorceress Nightshade and catered to her whims for her affections. He even shared access to the Great libraries of Beldorah and this led to not only the Ruler's undoing but the destruction of Beldorah. Legends and Song tell a grim tale of the Fey Sorceress taking knowledge and valuable books from Beldorah and using it to open a gate to the Nine Hells and later Striking a bargain with a Devil or Fiend for power in influence to overthrow Seelie Rulers of what is now known as the Dreadwood. The Songs and Tales Tell of Nightshade offered up the Soul of Uldrin Aledius to this devil or Fiend but when she could not bring him to her Benefactor to complete the deal. Hence, the fabled Devil or Fiend Sent the Sprit vines to trap all the Drow Souls of the city and legend says that thousands are trapped in vine-wrapped Crystal within the ruins of the city and Devilish creatures haunt the ruins.
The Great City of Nythwynnir Had a magnificent entrance deep within the canyon of mists now known as the Gash the Drow who lived here had a flourishing city with Strong relationships with both humans and Fey and strongest of all the Dwarven Lords of the Mountains. Kings and Lords would come and seek knowledge from the great libraries of both Nythwynnir and Beldorah and it is said that these two cities secreted away harboring and protecting Knowledge from many above land cultures during the Great Storms.   Nythwynnir Learning of the Fate of Beldorah Put forth efforts to aid their Brethren Drow and reclaim the city from Nightshade. their Scholars set out using Knowledge about Fey portals to find ways into the City of Beldorah. Several Drow patrols fell to the same or other grim fates of Nightshades minions through these Fey portals that were systematically being closed off to the Seelie Fey and those that appeared to Align with them in Nightshades eyes. Desperate the Drow of Nythwynnir focused their Knowledge and research to One of the Mirrors of Tharaza'ard that came into their Possession and had been in their Vault of Artifacts for nearly two Centuries. Their attempts focused on replicating the Magical key that opened astrological portals in hopes of bypassing any of the traps or Portals Nightshade now controlled. Anluzia Glannorell Queen of Nythwnnir at the time even sent Forrays of adventurers into Avernus to seek out the Fiend or Devil that made a pact with Nightshade in hopes of diminishing her powers, but Anluzia and the Drow were betrayed by one group of adventurers that unleashed to a flood of Gnolls and Witherings to overun the great city through an unprotected portal at their weakest moment.   With Nythwynnir falling Anluzia Glannorell and many drow refugees fled into the upper caves and sent envoys to seek aid from the Dwarves and Humans of upper lands. They did receive help but have been mostly unsuccessful in recovering the City of Nythwnnir and much of the cities libraries and artifacts are now under the control of Yeenagu Cultists and a massive force gnolls. Learning of the Fall of the Drow cities has even drawn the interest of Duregar who now seem to be prevalent in the regions of the underworld around both cities.   Remnant Drow settlements still are around within the Underworld Most are secretive and difficult to find. The Drow have a great distrust of surface dwellers. Much of the positive lore about the Drow people has long been lost in the great storms only generational tales of Betrayal and mistrust seem to come to most surface dwellers' ears.   The largest known settlement is Glenmoral which is rumored to be under a network of caves under Raven's Peak in the Shadow range This is where Anluzia Glannorell is said to still be queen over what remains of her people from Nythwnnir. The Canyon of Mysts is Now known only as the Gash and is a problematic region for the King of Ageron and the Dwarven Mountain lords. The Once Beautiful Forest is now simply the Dreadwood is Overrun with spirit vines and only the most capable venture more than a mile or two into the woods and Fringe groups of Fey touched do their best to keep Nightshade now known as Granny Nightshade and her minions at bay and Endeavor to see the return of the Seelie Fey to control the Dreadwood.
