The Backstory of Tameric (Player Character)

I was born in the year 375. I had 3 older brothers. My parents ran a farm. Being the youngest gave me the option of spending a lot of time in the woods. By 10 years of age I was able to regularly provide meat for our table.   The neighboring farm was run by an older couple. Their children were grown and were starting families of their own when they had a baby. They named this child Bellanna. She was 2 years younger than I. When I stumbled upon her, I knew, despite my young age, that we would marry. For 4 years, we hunted and played together. On her 10th birthday I made a special gift for her. It was storming that day. Perhaps a portent of what was to come.   Waking early, I headed to her parent's farm. I was surprised to see a coach there at that early hour. I saw an older man shaking Bellanna's father's hand. He turned and boarded the coach. Still some distance away, I started walking faster. As the coach driver whipped the horses and the coach began to roll away, I saw through the back window, facing me, Bellanna. I broke into a full run. I almost got to the coach before it picked up speed. Mud sprayed me from the wheels. I yelled for Bellanna. She looked with pleading eyes at me, then her face was replaced by the man. The look of hatred on his face was palpable. I yelled again. By this time the carriage was easily outdistancing me. I shouted, “By all that is holy and unholy, I swear I will find you, Bellanna, and bring you back!” I thought I heard someone laugh then I was struck by a bolt of lightning, knocking me unconscious.   When I woke, some hours later, I was told that Bellanna's parents owed a great deal of money to a money lender. They used their daughter to pay that debt. I told my parents that I would find her. My father told me to leave it alone. Within days, I left my family. I was 12.   I went to the nearest town and began looking for Bellanna. Towns were a lot nastier than the woods. Soon, I had no money, no place to stay and no idea where she might be. I soon adapted to town living. I was able to make money by conning the gullible. I was able to provide meat by hunting. This gave me time to look for Bellanna. I soon fell into a routine of arriving at a town, staying for a week or two, maybe hearing a rumor of where she might be, then moving on. Looking, always looking, but never finding.   After 3 years, I found the town of Womford. I was able to make myself look like whatever I needed to be. For the first time, I started to despair of finding Bellanna. I wondered if she would even want me, let alone recognize me. This was the first town I sort of set down roots. The tavern at the far end of town had a bartender's daughter who took a shine to me.   Being with her gave me a little relief, but it gave me great cover for a con I was able to pull off time after time. After perhaps the 12th time, I got sloppy. Fortunately, I was warned by a cutpurse I had befriended and left town immediately. I decided then that I would never run the same con twice. Too much risk.   Because I left so hastily, only had my gear and gold. I needed to hunt in the King's preserve to feed myself. Under the full moon, I was able to follow a track and shoot a large buck. Not wanting to be found, I put the buck on my shoulders and headed East, deeper into the forest.   After sometime, I heard what I thought were voices. I stealthily moved in their direction. Some minutes later I could see lights in a clearing. It sounded almost like people having a party. Putting down the deer, I crept up slowly to see what was going on. From my vantage point I could see people eating and drinking in a clearing. They looked as if they should have been royalty...or maybe they were royalty. I could not tell. Though I thought I was silent and unseen, one of the people looked directly at me and called me over. I wanted to run but felt unable. I was compelled to break cover and walk towards him. As I moved closer the number of people there became less distinct...sometimes more, sometimes less. It seemed that looking directly at one made them more solid. That did not make any sense. The woman who appeared to be in charge looked at the one who had called me out and seemed to communicate with him without speaking.   “What is your name and what are you doing out here?” he asked.   I replied, “Tameric. I recently left Womford and feel more comfortable traveling in the forest than on the roads.”   “Do you have any food?”   “No.”   All activity stopped and everyone turned to look at me. He asked again, “Do you have any food?”   I answered, “I killed a buck and was carrying it when I crossed your path. I set it down at the edge of your camp. That is all the food I have.” The people resumed their activities. “I can retrieve it if you'd like.”   “Yes, please.”   I left the clearing, brought back the buck, and handed it to a smaller lad. He dressed it within minutes, and soon it was on the spit. People would come up and talk to me then wander off. They would ask a probing question. Then, with their next breath, a question that a child might ask. As the night progressed I told them that I had to be moving on. They insisted that I stay with them.   In the morning, we headed East at a leisurely pace. I wanted to go faster but no matter what I said they laughed and dismissed me. They camped the second night much like the first. Drinking and eating. Almost as if they didn't have a care in the world. I told them again I must be moving on. They told me to stay that night and the next, then I could leave if I so chose.   We broke camp with no sense of urgency. I did not know who these people were. They did not share many details about themselves with me. It felt that they were treating me like a child. It felt as if I was being purposely led astray. At times, my thoughts became clouded. We made camp again at dusk. This night someone showed up at the camp. He was a well muscled, tattooed, long dark hair with the largest antlers I had ever seen crowning his head. His horse was equally large. The people paid him hardly any attention. He scanned the crowd, then his eyes fell upon me. He walked towards me. I wanted to run or throw up.   He asked me, “You are Tameric, right?” Without waiting for a reply, he said, “I have heard you and I will help you. Go to the village of Saltmarsh. With this help you will answer when called.” He then turned on his heel, mounted his horse and rode off. The party continued as if nothing happened with only one or two even looking at me.   The next morning I arose and when we broke camp we parted ways. They said that they were sure our paths would cross again. I doubted it. I headed East. The first town I came to was Bargewright Inn. I was strangely drained of all energy. I got a room and promptly went to sleep. In the morning, before heading to this Saltmarsh, I wanted to see if I could find out any information about the people I had found.   Asking a few questions, I was told of an old seer who might be able to help me. Her hut was unremarkable. The yard overgrown. I knocked on the door. I knocked again...this time more loudly. I turned and was about to walk away, when the door opened a crack. “Who are you?” a voice hissed.   “I am looking for someone who might be able to answer a question or two for me. I have a little coin.” I could see her hesitation. I had quite a few gold coins and took two out. “One now and one more if I feel you were helpful.” She opened her door and ushered me in.   I related four days to her. As I watched her, I saw her suck in her lip. I wasn't sure if it was fear or not. I was sure she was going to earn the second gold piece.   The crone started, “It's been years since they have been seen in the High Forest. Consider yourself lucky to be alive. Even luckier to be let go. Do you know what year this is?”   “390,” I replied.   She cackled. “393. Each night and a day with them is 5 years to us that's not with them. Many a lass or lad has gone with them and come back to no family.” She appeared to be welling up. “Lucky you are to be here.”   “Who are they?” I asked.   “Why, they are the Seelie Court. And, the big man you saw is an elf. He has had many names through out time. I believe he now goes by 'The Lord of the Hunt'. If he granted you a boon you are no doubt connected to him. I says that you should get as far away from here as you can and maybe you will survive this.”   I gave her the gold piece and left that evening. In three months I arrived at Saltmarsh. I went into a tavern and found a group of guys and joined up with them. I was trying to forget those three nights...they were becoming almost like a dream. Then, after our fight on the ship, I woke up and knew that the Lord of the Hunt had indeed helped. I could feel the power roiling inside me somehow I Knew was a warlock!   The Fey of the Seelie Court came to me one more time after My Adventures with my new found friends after the fight on the ship, we had some down time I used to study and research more about the Seelie Court in the Library of the Town mage Keledrick. One evening I saw Keledrick Studying a mirror with runes on it on the other side of the room. He rudely told me to no touch it and left the room.   Later in my studies I felt drawn to the mirror as I heard voices coming from it as I lifted away the partially covered mirror I saw 'The lord of the Hunt' and a beautiful woman I learned later was his sister named 'Selene'. The Beckoned me to step through the Mirror after recalling a childhood memory of My love Bellona uttering some words I said them out Loud and I fell through the mirror.   Once on the other side I found myself in a beautiful glade near a crystal clear pond The 'Lord of the hunt' spoke little but urged his sister Selene to do most of the Talk as he looked on. She explained that she would teach me how to channel Warlock Powers she was Strangely Very Seductive but she began to teach me She also told me a little about seeking my aid to restore some desecrated Temple dedicated to her and her sister and that if I made a pact with her and her brother 'the lord of the Hunt' She would promise more powers.   Before I left her and returned through the Mirror she inscribed magically 2 Tatoos one on each arm and did some strange thing with some strands of my hair. She told me they will glow in the presence of Fey Creatures Aid them as you can as you promise to Aid me "You are our pathfinder" to help us return to your lands. With that she Pushed me through the Mirror and I found myself Standing in front of the Mirror back in Kledricks Library as only hour had passed.
