Cult of Joergen

The Hero Joergen

Once a dwarven fighter who stopped the Forgotten Powers from ending the world in the Fourth Age. He hails from the line of Platebraker, and is son of Yurgen. His temple is in the New Dwarven City. His symbol is a round jade stone with the Dwarvish rune of protection etched in it. He is often seen in the company of Earth Elementals and appears when he is needed most merely by erupting from the very rock and soil of Voktegård, piercing whatever enemy he has come to vanquish.

Main Tenets

  1. Redeem the reputation of Dwarves
  2. Defend the Surface
  3. Preserve the Dwarven Race.

Sins

  • Allowing oneself to be ambushed by an enemy charge.
  • Failing to protect a party member.

Holidays and Traditions

The main holidays of Joergen's cult are:
  • The Day of Remembrance (For the souls lost when Dimmburg, the Old Dwarven City, fell to the Darkness)
  • The Day of Awakening (Celebrating the day Joergen was unearthed by Voktegård)
  • The Day of Rebirth (Celebrating the day Joergen became the Stonelord)
  • The Day of Ascension (Celebrating the day Joergen became a divine being by slaying a Celestials)
Some outsiders mistakenly think Founder's Day is a religious holiday as well, but it is really just a political holiday celebrated by dwarves and the only official celebration takes place in the New Dwarven City to commemorate its founding.   Some notable traditions are the giving of a shield (typically by the father or grandfather, but can be done by the mother if paternal males are dead/absent) to a male upon reaching adulthood and a peculiar practice known as "Set Training" in which dwarves playfully attempt to catch their loved ones unawares and charge them for a harmless tackle. Mostly this is done with children, but adults have been known to do it after long times spent apart or after imbibing copious amounts of ale. It is a humorous minor social shame to be "caught" by someone "set training" you, the implication being that you would have been run through by an enemy if caught so unprepared. It is common for youths, especially siblings, to become embroiled in Set Training wars in which they trade off attempts to catch each other every moment possible, sometimes even keeping track of points. Though this can be an annoyance to their mothers, it is generally thought to be good-natured and have the desired effect of training each other to always be ready to set against a charge.
