Adventuring

The Heroes of The Fourth Age began as humble adventurers. If they had not set out for a life of travel, intrigue, diplomacy, and combat, all life on Voktegård and beyond would have ended in a flood of eternal Darkness. As such, it has become an acceptable choice upon reaching adulthood for the people of Voktegård to set out seeking adventure. In every nation but Mørkland, this is considered a noble path that would make any parent proud (albeit also quite nervous).

In addition to the nobility and intrinsic rewards of adventuring (i.e. gold and glory), many adventurers believe that somehow the adventuring life is what led the Heroes to attain Divinity. Because the world does not know the actual process by which that occurred, many theories have developed among adventurers (including a lost ritual, collection of artifacts, or simply being chosen by Voktegård). No other adventurers have yet attained Divinity except for Outsider, who has stated plainly that it is merely a function of the monk's path and has nothing to do with whatever process allowed the Heroes to attain Divinity. Those Diviners who have tried to magically learn the secret have failed (and sometimes drawn the attention of the Citadel or worse -- Celestials). Every day a new theory is born in the minds of young adventurers setting off to seek their destiny.
