Lightly tanned with artistic tattoos down both arms and along his chest. He’s non-descript when it comes to initial appearances and placing him firmly in a family description.

Body Features

Denetan’s Laz is tattooed around his left wrist, as is required by Zhu’Drahinuaw, but it is frequently covered up by the simple digital watch he wears. The tattoo that twists down that arm somewhat obscures the name so it is not immediately apparent unless someone is looking for it.

Hair

He keeps his fine black hair cut casual and short. Something easy to maintain. Stylishly messy.

Shrie vs Nuus

For all intents, Denetan lives a double life. For public’s sake and to any in the Shrie family, Denetan looks rather plain. He prefers white button shirts, a belt, and jeans. No nothing that would draw attention to him – even his demeanor is incredibly passive and out of the way. He doesn’t want to be noticed, so he’s quiet and non-committal. As a Drahinuaw Nuus, he dresses entirely in black. A long coat, hood, and lower mask keeps his identity secret – a must given his job. Gloves, black boots, and a myriad of blades complete the attire. While he would certainly draw notice if someone saw him dressed as such, the entire point of a Nuus is not to be seen. Or at least, if someone does see him it’s right before he kills them.

While no one in the Shrie besides Kino knows what he does on the side, Drahinuaw is fully aware that he’s Connected into the Shrie family. It was a messy process forging the proper paperwork so he presented as a common vnou to the Shrie and they’ve worked to maintain this boring cover for him. Denetan hasn’t exactly had to lie to anyone in Shrie because no one would ever think to ask Denetan if he does anything besides tend to Kino. As far as Shrie is concerned, Denetan lucked out Connecting to Kino. Not that Denetan would disagree, but for different reasons.

Family

Zhu'Drahinuaw. Nuus. He’s believed to be from a common vnou family, though. His documented name is Chi’Shrie though it should be officially Vyablie-Drahinuaw’Shra-Kuad Sid’Shrie – which is noted in his family’s personal records.

Unmarried

Though he is in a relationship with his Dha, Dya'Shra-Pra Kinokinaver Sid'Shrie, his secretive position as Drahinuaw Nuus has prevented him from getting married. Not that Shrie is eager to push the issue either as they are less that impressed with his common origin. He has no interest beyond his Dha.

Life before Shrie

Born into a distant branch of the Drahinuaw family, Denetan grew up knowing he was nobility but that didn’t really mean anything to him until he entered private tutoring with a handful of other Drahinuaw kids around the age of 10. Drahinuaw does this for two reasons – the first is in the idle hope that Connections will be made amongst their own, in a loose form of Arranged Courtship - and the second is to make the family aware of one another. Until those classes, Denetan didn’t know the other members of his extended family, though he abstractly knew they existed.

Training for Drahinuaw starts out generic – reading, writing, and maths – while the tutors try to get a feel for each vnou’s potential. Denetan’s quiet, observant nature led him toward the stealthy route. It would take a high grade Shra prodding about his mind before they would recommend him for Nuus training, believing him capable of killing.

Denetan met Kinokinaver during this transitional period of his life – when his training started to become more serious. He obviously never meant to see the other vnou ever again and couldn’t understand why the smaller, flashy vnou even bothered him. It felt like an odd failure since he was trying not to be noticed and Kino seemed to zero in on him. Someone as disciplined as Denetan ignored any pull he might’ve felt, dismissing it all as a distraction.

It would take Kinokinaver actually pursuing him before Denetan would confront the Shrie – not that he knew who Kino was at the time. Deciding it was time to learn more about the vnou that seemed intent on hunting him, Denetan would sneak after Kino one night. Back to the Shrie caravan and into his rooms to question him.

Life after Shrie

Denetan will be the first between the two of them to admit that the Connection was a mistake. The best, and only, mistake that he’s ever made. He had never intended to Connect to Kino and didn’t understand just how much of a mess he’d created in doing so when he found out that Kino was Dya in Shrie. Conversely, it took far more convincing before Kino actually believed Denetan was part of the notoriously secretive noble family of Drahinuaw.

They would keep the accident between the two of them for a couple of months before Denetan’s sense of duty would compel him to confess to his teacher. Kino was brought in to meet more Drahinuaw in a less than friendly meeting and their ruse was set up. Denetan would come from common stock and he would continue his training for Drahinuaw. Contractually, Kinokinaver is bound never to mention where Denetan is from or what he actually does. While there are a lot of lengthy clauses about what might happen should he do so, the jist of it is Denetan’s termination as a Nuus. And the only way a Nuus quits is death.

This was a contract that Denetan likewise signed and agreed to, understanding the predicament he put his family in.

Denetan moved in with Kinokinaver and became part of Shrie – not exactly accepted with open arms since it’s believed he came from common stock and there is nothing particularly remarkable about him. It’s a joke shared amongst Shrie that Kino is a perfect example of a vnou Connection gone awry.
