The Blightlands

Description

The Blightlands were once home to a plethora of life and a powerful empire of Men. Those Men triggered the largest manifestation of the Wrath of Vitcoona. The consequence of their foolishness is the complete purification of their homeland. Everything was purged by Vitcoona. Every plant, animal, and person was destroyed. Even the buildings were leveled.   All that remains now is charred husks of buildings and trees, with chilling Carbon pillars were the inhabitants and animals of the land were struck by the fires, as they moved through. Interestingly, valuables were not consumed by the flames, but they have all now taken on a blue-greenish hue. Adventurers will frequently make journeys into The Blight in an effort to retrieve these artifacts. Given that they can only be acquired from The Blight, these items of gold, silver, and gemstones are highly sought after by collectors and historians alike.

Geography

The Blightlands are an incredibly hostile and hot place. They are sandwiched between a temperate area to the North and a frozen region to the South. This makes the heat unnatural as there should be a gradient of cold temperatures to warm temperatures, not straight hot temperatures.   Originally, the area of The Blight was luscious and featured a forest as well as a few small mountains. Now the mountains are all that remain of what was once a verdant plain. The grasses and bushes are long gone, and even the remains of the trees crumple with time.   The lack of vegetation and significant hills along the central plains of this area have always caused the winds to be brutal, but now there are even fewer obstructions. This near total lack of things for the wind to break on causes it to gain incredible ferocity as it travels through The Blightlands. Travelers and visitors alike try to avoid crossing the central plains, as such journeys are exceptionally difficult and likely to lead to fatalities.
