Boulder Muncher

The Boulder Muncher are a species of rock munching beasts that keep themselves deep in the rock lands of Cytal. Originally from one of the islands discovered by Captain Hoarwae, these four legged animals not like most animals, from the thick grey coloured skin that blends in with their environment to their natural strength. Capable of smashing boulders in a variety of ways.
The Munchers have only been seen by a small number of beings due to their nature of keeping to themselves, minding their own business. But don't let their initial docile temperament fool you, for these two horned creatures are very defensive and protective over the land they call home as well as others they travel with. Usually Boulder Munchers travel in herds no more than 10 and no less than 6.
They get there name after explorers spent days watching these creatures destroy boulders, solid stone formations and cliff-sides. Turning them into debris and then chewing on the stone. It was not observed that they ate anything else, thus the name of Boulder Muncher was given to them by the explorers. It is not known why they like eating rock or what nutrients they gain from them, but they enjoy it non the less. The way they create bite sized stone is also interesting. Explorers described the animals being rather intelligent, using several methods to achieve the goal. This included stampeding as a pack, destroying nearby tree trunks and throwing them into boulders and riding boulders to stomp into dust.
It is unknown how many Boulder Munchers live on the islands all over Violem, but a few were brought back to Cytal after being endangered by a slowly sinking isle. For hundreds of star cycles the species has slowly grown in numbers keeping the rock lands free from loose stone that could be a threat to travellers entering Drovvin.
