Yiaster Festival

The Yiaster Festival is a celebration of the arts and creative liberties, held in the middle of Spring. The festival is Freelandian tradition that occupies a majority if not all towns and villages within the borders and is to commemorate and express the creative skills individuals have to offer.    The Yiaster Festival is named after Yias, the Freelands God of Entertainment; The entire event is to thank him for allowing new sparks of ideas that waft into our heads to exist and is shown through the many traditions that come with the festivities.   Is home to many arts and attractions: Circus Performers, Painters, Tapestry Makers, Chefs, Jewelers, Poets, Dancers, Writers, Musicians, Etc.

Stalls

Stalls for playing festive games and purchasing artisan items are very common at these events, else the festival of entertainment won't be entertaining.

Games

Many stalls hold festival games for people and children to enjoy and win prizes at. These included but are not limited to Hackybag Bowling, Archery, Hit the Hill, Kings Rock, and Tail Rope. Entries usually cost small amounts such as five copper to play, making it an inexpensive form of fun for anyone. People who win at the games tend to receive prizes which can be toys, money, and even pets.

Artisan Stalls

The Yiaster Festival provides opportunities for shopkeepers or craftsmen to sell their hand-made goods or items to the public. These stalls tend to be very popular as some stall owners will ever only set up tents for the festival alone. The variety of options at these stalls differs and vary depending on the owner's skills and interests; but most common Artisan stalls involve baked goods and pastries, paintings, tapestries, and jewelry.

The Heckling Jester Tradition

A tradition in which one individual dresses up as a stereotypical court jester and must battle an opponent they randomly find in the crowds to a 'heckle off'. The two competitors must insult their opponent in the most sophisticated way, they go back and forth until one cannot find anything to heckle about the other.    Upon losing to the Heckling Jester, the jester is able to take an item off the person's body to add to the 'potluck'; a haul of all the loser's goods which commonly tend to be food and prizes from the festival itself. If a person is able to defeat the Heckling Jester in this battle of bickering, they receive the entire potluck as a prize.   The Heckling Jester is accompanied by a crazy and over-the-top performance, similar to a common court jester or clown. With children, he often gifts small treats like caramel or fruits in order to liven their day.   For most towns and villages, the Heckling Jester is a noble official of the town and is escorted by two guards who make sure no troubles arise and hold onto the potluck for safety and transferring. It is a fun way for townsfolk to freely speak their mind and insult upper-class individuals without repercussions.   In few towns, the role of the Heckling Jester is bestowed to the persons who defeat the previous incarnation at the tradition. Meaning a multitude of individuals can play the role in a single day.

The Yiaster Shout

The evening ceremony is a tradition before the big feast to thank Yias for the fun and festivities for the day. The town leader (Mayor, Duke/Duchess, Earl/Lady, King/Queen) gives out a thank you speech to all those who attended at a large opening or auditorium. They then inform everyone to stand together for the 'Yiaster Shout'.    The Yiaster Shout is when the crowd all yell the most random and craziest sounds to the skies so that they can let Yias know they had their fun on his day. When it is over, the feast begins and everyone enjoys the beautifully made cuisines for the whole town to enjoy.
