The Purple Moon

The 'Purple Moon' was a Centrelands rumour regarding to the strange phenomenon of the lunar surface of the moon showing increased pigmentations of purple during the winter seasons of 999HE (Human Era). The hued Moon would be the cause of the infamous Night of the Hundred Howls, affecting thousands and changing the course of nature.

Pre-Event

In the early parts of the winter season of 999HE, Scholars and Astrologists first acknowledged the strange phenomena in the kingdom of Pearls Landing. The reasoning or explanation of its effects was unknown and dumbfounded many experts. The most peculiar factor was that the phenomenon was primarily exclusive to the Centrelands, neighbouring countries were unable to see the coloured moon from their lands. Every night that emerges in the winter, the hue grew more vibrant, as if it were counting down to an event that no one would know of its nature.   In a region of farmers and soldiers, rumours tend to rise and expand to every corner of the Centrelands.   A good omen from the gods to prophecize a beautiful bloom of crops for the upcoming spring season.
A terrible one to depict the fall of man.
A rare occurrence like a meteor shower that only a few generations of families will ever experience
  The end of days
The start to a new age
Any prophecy was accepted, as this unnatural occurrence never arose in the entirety of the realm, as far as historians are aware.

The Purple Night

The last night of winter would show the true nature of the purple moon. The widely revered Springleaf Festival was a celebration of the end of winter and the transition to spring, which allowed farmers to jump back into tending their fields. Villages would party on the fields, towns in the streets, and cities at the galas. It was a universal celebration among all the cultures in the Centrelands, a time to reflect on the previous seasons and write amends for better ones. Unbeknownst to all, this night would be unforgettable for other reasons.   At the stroke of midnight, when one season transitions to another, the realm of nature would be altered. The purple moon glows blinding; the stars and clouds unseen to the human eye. Bonfires, torches and candles flicker to the purplish tones of the lunar surface. As many gaze in awe, the light of the moon affects others quite drastically. A variety of humans across the lands begin to alter their physical appearance involuntarily, transforming them into beasts of the forests. Family members, aristocrats, urchins, and children were bound to the shape of wolves and bears; though maintaining their soul, mind, and of course fear. The horrors of a potential threat escalated panic to the many unaffected, as humans tend to be afraid of the unknown. These 'beasts' were killed and hunted for the safety of the kingdom, leading to the events of The Night of the Hundred Howls.   The coloured moon reverted back to its original appearance.

Post-Event

The purple since has never been sighted in the sky again, a pleasure to come to believe that this will never occur again. But researchers and astrologists still inspect the night skies constantly during the winter seasons, if it were to ever happen again.
"No good things come to hued lit-lands, and yet we wait to appease our curiosity."
