Hammelian Mind Leech

The Hammellian Mind Leech is Clitellata genome species that reside in the East Kalandrian lakes and freshwater ponds of Rumael. The physical appearance of a Mind Leech consists of a two-inch glossy slate colored cylindrical body with ridges. Its most distinct appearance is the multiple bright blue protrusions across its body, used as sensory nerves for touch and sight. These small bump-like protrusions can vary between 70 to 200 sensory nerves.

Breeding

Wild Hammellian Mind Leeches are notorious for their amnesia-like effect when attached to a host, resulting in animals and individuals progressively losing their memories the longer the leech is attached. Wild variations tend to stop feeding on the host one hour after attachment, which is estimated to give a temporary loss of one year of long-term memory, resulting in confusion of their orientation and possibly aggression to anyone they travel with that met recently.   After removal from the host, whether voluntary or forced, the host will gradually recover all their forgotten memories with a two-hour period. Rare occasions may permanently damage and even deplete long-term memories, which increases its chance the more often the mind leech is perpetually attached to the host.   Today, various druids began breeding the Wild Hammelian Mind Leeches to study and condition a new generation of leeches for medical and health practices. Through various selective breeding, The Tamed Hammelian Mind Leech showed incredible prowess as it was able to instead recover forgotten memories of an animal or individual for a longer period of time.   The Breeding program devolved the leech's circumference of their sucker ring, which allowed the leech to absorb bodily fluids and stay attached to the host for a longer period of time compared to their wild variants. The sizing of the leech however is notoriously smaller, reducing large loss of bodily fluids which in turn reduces any severe injuries from arising.

Treatment

Wild Hammelian Mind Leech

The wild variant of the leech wasn't used as commonly compared to its tamed relative. The most notable form of treatment with the wild variants was its potential to help traumatized soldiers returning from battles, allowing them temporary ease of rest to help cope with their experience.   The wild variant was also used by inner circle societies within the realm to depose information of any radical threats to their kingdom, especially cases of espionage to halt any rebel militias and groups.   This method details that after an interrogation in which intel is leaked, a wild variant mind leech would be attached to the subject for a few minutes. Whereupon the suspect is released and followed during the time frame of amnesia to give guards the rough estimate of the rebel group's hideout.

Tamed Hammellian Mind Leech

A tamed variant of the Hammelian Mind Leech is currently being used for experimental treatment for individuals suffering from mind diminishing curses or diseases. The treatment allows the patient to gradually regain all lost memories during the entirety of the leech's feeding period.   However, two hours after removal from the patient, their memories begin to diminish, returning them back to their original illness. Continual exposure has also shown that the effects of the tamed variant diminish at a faster rate the more often the patient is exposed to the leech until they are completely dependent on the treatment and will progress further in their mind-destroying illness.   Trials for new methods to remove their setback are currently underway. More research is required.
