Lake Rorest

It is one of the largest lakes in the world (Similar surface area to Lake Erie). That is fed from several rivers/streams, with the primary being Cloudhill, which runs through Cliffshear and Swanward.
 

Agriculture and People:

The lake and river water support vast agricultural production. The yields from Rorest fields surpass the production anywhere else in the world, a fact that has puzzled thinkers and leaders for generations. The lake directly supports nearly 2 million people, several large cities (Swanward, Claypost), and countless smaller towns and settlements.  

Theories Behind the Lake's Good Harvests

  1. Divine Favor: Some people believe that the gods have blessed the land and the lake, granting them bountiful harvests as a sign of their favor.
  2. Unique Soil: Other's believe the soil around the lake is special, rich in nutrients and minerals that make crops grow bigger and healthier than anywhere else.
  3. Magic: The lake has of magical property that enhances the growth of crops, perhaps due to the presence of powerful wizards or magical creatures.
  4. Hard Work: Many people simply attribute the success of the harvests to their own hard work and perseverance, believing that they have earned their rewards through sweat and toil.
  5. Luck: Some believe that the good harvests are simply a matter of luck, and that they should enjoy it while it lasts before it inevitably comes to an end.
 

Travel:

A road on the west and a lesser trail on the east circumnavigate the lake. The full trip takes easily a month on foot. The lake is even large enough to support a sizable merchant fleet. That regularly travels between the main cities at a pace of 2-5 days depending on the winds
 

Origin of "Blood Lake":

Lake Rorest is often referred to (especially by older residents) as Blood Lake due to the centuries of wars fought around it by the Triad of Empires. Given the lake valleys special fertility it proved to be stategically important for the food production to feed an empire (or more importantly its army). This resource was stategically important enough that if an empire managed to control the valley it wasn't long before another mounted an attack. Some wars featured battles so large that the lake was red for days.
 

Legends:

  • There are frequent storms in the middle of the lake that some Rorestvian's believe hides the Vanishing Island. Once every century, it's said that a mysterious island appears in the center of Lake Rorest for a single day. Those who reach it supposedly gain profound wisdom or terrible curses, depending on their intentions.
  • there is an enchanted blade known as the "Blade of Rorest" hidden somewhere around Lake Rorest. The blade is said to have the power to bring peace to the region by dispelling the bloodshed and ending the wars.

 

Fish Species in Lake Rorest:

  • Silverscale Trout: A prized game fish known for its flaky, delicate meat and shimmering scales. These fish are often served in high-end establishments.
  • Lake Whitefish: A staple food fish, abundant and easy to catch. Its versatile meat is popular in various dishes.
  • Rorest Pike: A predatory fish with firm, white flesh. Known for its size and fighting spirit, it's popular among anglers.
  • Golden Perch: A smaller fish with a sweet flavor, often caught in large numbers and used in everyday meals.
  • Deepwater Sturgeon: A ancient species found in the lake's depths. Prized for its roe (caviar) and considered a delicacy.
  • Shadowfin Eel: A mysterious, nocturnal species. Its meat is an acquired taste but highly valued in certain culinary traditions.
  • Crystalclear Crayfish: Not a fish, but an important freshwater crustacean found in the shallows of the lake.
  • Rorestian Lamprey: An eel-like fish with a controversial reputation. Some consider it a delicacy, while others view it with disgust.
