Silverwood Resin

Silverwood resin is a viscous, pale yellow sap extracted from the magically inclined silverwood tree. The resin by itself only has faint Octarchic properties and thus must be refined in order to concentrate the magical potency of the resin. This forms a colourless gel with the very rare properties of being resonant with any varient of Octarchic energy, leading some more imaginative mages to suggest that silverwood trees have existed since before the seperation of the 8 different magics. Silverwood resin is most commonly used in the industrial production of different enchanted steels, more specifically as a way of binding the desired magical energy to the metal.

Properties

Material Characteristics

A pale yellow sap when impure, when purified it becomes a clear gel.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Sticky to the touch but much smoother when impurites are removed.

Origin & Source

The material is sourced from the silverwood tree which has the distinctive property of being able to grow incredibly strongly in places of high Octarchic energy, no matter what variant. As a result thickets of Silverwood can be found deep in the Forest of Sen as well as near the Odome, Imogen Canyon and the Amber Mount. Silverwood makes up the largest proportion of timber found on Black Island.

History & Usage

Discovery

Discovered towards the end of the Magical Revolution, and soon after the discovery of magical distillation

Industrial Use

Silverwood resin is used as a binding agent, though not a final ingredient, in the creation of all enchanted steels, such as Nettlesteel, Electrosteel or Shadowsteel.

Refinement

It has to undergo magical distillation before it can be used to any real effect. The resin loses its colour, becomes a gel rather than a viscous liquid and become a lot more magically sensitive.
