House Freebloom

House Freebloom, once one of the noble houses of The Kingdom of Savassan, is one of the few houses comprised of halflings and was the only major house of halflings in power.
Tracing their lineage back to Corrin Brushwood, the Freeblooms were in power for nearly as long as the major elven houses but were the largest noble house by far (halflings have many children, leading to even larger families). This meant that house Freebloom, despite halflings having less power in governance than elves, was more powerful than some elven houses. Many citizens, noble and lowborn alike, grew to resent many members of house Freebloom, believing them to be behind a lot of underhanded methods of maintaining and increasing their power.
House Freebloom was eventually discovered to be responsible for a significant amount of crime in the kingdom and was cast down as a noble house, disgraced, and stripped of all governing power. Because of the size of the house, only the head of the house and those who could be directly connected to the crimes were punished. To date, House Freebloom is still a large crime syndicate, but authorities have great difficulty finding evidence to imprison anyone for their crimes. Authorities are still unsure as to the extent and true scope of the organization, and any petty crime within the kingdom could potentially trace back to the Freeblooms.

Structure

Osgyn Freebloom, head of the house, manages the family's overall operations, often traveling from city to city to make sure everything runs smoothly.  The family's elders, who are at a point in life where crime is more difficult, are left to manage the family's various holdings around the kingdom. They are still involved with the crime syndicate but take a more indirect role.  Though the family is large, House Freebloom tries to recruit people from outside of the family to do the actual dirty work, helping protect themselves from liabilities. The other members of House Freebloom take on a behind-the-scenes role, managing resources, planning, and legal proceedings necessary for the house.

Culture

Taking part in a medium-scale or higher crime operation is considered a rite of passage for the Freeblooms. Only by getting into the fry yourself can you really prove you know how to manage one. It also helps them to understand the complexity behind planning a heist or similar operation.  The Freeblooms care about their family and will do anything for them, but if someone gets into a tough spot they can't be saved from, the Freeblooms cut all ties. While this sounds horrible to outsiders, the Freeblooms understand the necessity behind it and tend not to hold grudges about it.

House Freebloom fights for three things: money, power, and more freedoms for halflings, the latter being the motivation behind the first two.
