Description and Characteristics
Shambling mounds are usually about six feet tall, with an eight-foot girth, when they stand erect. Most weigh around 3,800 pounds. Their brains and sensory organs are located in their upper regions. In their natural environment, shambling mounds are almost invisible. They can move through water easily, and have been known to creep into camps in their range at night to attack. Stories tell of shambling mounds moving about in electrical storms without flinching from the frequent lightning strikes, even direct strikes.
Behavior and Intelligence
Shambling Mounds are strictly carnivorous, attacking and killing anyone who treads through their land. They are also known to creep into local settlements and kill inhabitants. If they are located in a marsh, they will grab their victims from below and drown them. If they are located in a desert, they will quickly rise from beneath the sand to deliver a devastating charge. If they are located in a jungle, they will either rise speedily from the bottom of a river or hinge off of a tree to embrace and strangle its prey. If they are located in a cave, they will quickly grab their victims, push them against the wall of the cavern, and then crush them with their body.
Locations in Vestra
Rare in Ellebore, most are only known by rumor and legend. What is known is that they prefer marshes or forests where they can blend in with the vegetation.
