Loup-Garou

Description and Characteristics

Maddened berserkers and vicious hunters. To compare one to a werewolf is to compare a direwolf with a regular wolf. Until recently, this curse had been suppressed and individuals so cursed were able to retain their mind and thus control behavior.

Loup-garou have three forms; humanoid, wolf, and hybrid. In humanoid form, most are Human, in varying shapes and sizes. The only real changes are increased strength and exceptional nasal acuity. In wolf form, they stood about 5ft at the shoulder and almost 9ft in body length with thick, matted fur in various shades. In their hybrid form the loup-garou are about 8-9ft. tall standing straight, although they often hunch down to better lunge forward.

Both the wolf and hybrid forms can bite, with the hybrid form gaining sharp claws as well. Unlike other forms of werecreature, the bite does not cause lycanthrope. It is poisonous however. While in wolf or hybrid form loup-garou are resistant to slashing, piercing, and bludgeoning from non-magical or non-silvered weapon attacks. They are also able to quickly regenerate unless struck with silvered weapons.

History

  • The original 13 were soldiers cursed by Pancorin's death with in 410 SA. The curse was to hunt and destroy Kelveren Darkhold in retribution. It was not to be however, the Dark Mage killed all but two. Those two he found ways to control and build a shock troop of monsters who would rage at the sight of him, but be unable to touch him.
  • When the Cataclysm happened, two squads of these shock troops were further north in the mountains. Escaping their captivity, they moved further into the mountains until the mage storms passed. During this time, the loup-garou discovered two things. The first is that found that they could now control the change. The second was that although they were still vicious, particularly in hybrid form, it was not the same mindless rage.
  • In 70 TA, deciding to leave the Amesgar for somewhere a bit more hospitable, but still far from others, the community of loup-garou founded the town of Bay Moon. It was roughly 10 years later that Nelo Crowcaller showed up and said she had been called to the village.
  • As the local witch, Nelo spent years trying to find a way to break the curse. In the end she was able to suppress the bestial nature, allowing the villagers to keep their minds when transformed. This was the best of both worlds, the intelligence and wits of a human with the abilities of the werewolf.
