Letter from Daldor Zahun - 20 Planting 498

Janora,

I pray to the Huntress that you receive this soon and that you have made progress on discovering what is causing the beast to rise within us. Things are not completely out of control....yet. All of us have lost the ability to transform at will, yet transform we do.  Sleeping seems to have a one in four chance of causing a shift. And of course we all changed when Rilar was full a few weeks ago.

We've taken to sleeping, separated, out in the woods at night. When changed, there is no rational thought, and we are as likely to disembowel friend as foe. I am sad to report that there have been a few deaths, but only within the pack. All of the non-afflicted villagers moved away as soon as the snows cleared.

But that is not why I felt I needed to write you. I have been doing my own research, as I promised you. I have been delving into the council records. I am sad to say that we were not as diligent as perhaps we should have been in keeping them protected. Most everything more than an 150-200 y.o. has been rendered illegible by damp and decay.  But I have found sections in a few, still readable.

One such section appeared to be exactly what we were looking for.  It seemed to be a precis of a longer report detailing a plan to balance the loup-garou's nature. This summary did not speak of what exactly was to be done, only that the local witch had come forward with a plan. You will be most interested to learn that it was your ancestor, a witch by the name of Nelo Crowcaller. Perhaps you know something of her? Surely she would have left a record of some kind.

I shall continue to look through these moldy tomes, perhaps I shall find other nuggets of wisdom that have survived the ages.

Walk softly, Daldor Zahun
