In the beginning...

In the time before time, this material plane was rolling chaos and energies. Coming to the attention of a number of the gods, they began to swirl and pull order from the chaos. Forming planets and kindling stars, the divine powers walked the worlds spreading the seeds of life.   The solar system of Zriavli had drawn the attention of the Prime Goddess, Queen Iau. A small yellow star that hosted a number of new planets, she brought her Consort and Children and they began shaping the worlds. One planet, Vestra was in the goldilocks zone and soon became a cradle of life.   Not all of these divine beings were enamored with all this life however. One of them, Iau’s Daughter Sira’a longed for the chaos and emptiness of the void. Coming behind her siblings she slid seeds of decay and rot into their designs, large and small.   When her machinations were discovered there was much uproar and unrest upon the floor of heaven. Queen Iau commanded her daughter to appear and explain her actions. Before a court of assembled siblings, Sira’a appeared as if stepping out of shadow, haughty and aloof. Being the eldest, she had little concern for the company, focusing her eyes only on her mother.   “Why do you yowl so? I am here as you requested,” said sa’Rrahh with a smile. “Now what is it that you wish to accuse me of having had a paw in?” At her words, one of the assembled, Urra’ha, the Storm Chaser, roared in objection. sa’Rrahh’s attention was on him in a second and was about to say something when their mother raised her hand.   Looking down from her golden throne Queen Iau spoke, “You have deliberately marred the creations of myself and consort, not to mention the works of your siblings. This decay, this death...this entropy into the world. Why would you do such a thing?”   sa’Rrahh pulled herself to her full height before turning to face Iau. Turning eyes that burned with dark flames on her mother, sa’Rrahh smiled. “But Dearest Mother, I did all of those things for you. You who were so proud of the free will that you had given these new mortals. All I did was give them a reason to use it. As for the others...well, I have given purpose to their actions. Now all of those races you are so proud of have something to strive for, a reason to work together. I am but a mirror that shines darkly, revealing the choice.”   Queen Iau stood, whiskers quivering. “Enough! Your words are hollow and empty. You are indeed a Black Mirror which twisted everything it sees. Yet, you are still a part of me...and a static world, while lovely, would stagnate and grow unpleasant.” Banishing sa’Rrahh from this part of the material plane, Queen Iau hoped that that was the last they had heard of the wayward daughter.   But such was not to be.Within a few eons, sa’Rrahh returned...darker than she had been before and with hatred in her heart. In her wanderings she had found the resting place of the Chained One, Tharizdun. Allowing his darkness to infest her being and embracing it she allowed a shard of that Great Destroyer to escape it’s prison and try once more to rule and destroy   Seeing her rebellious daughter, and realizing the depths to which she had sunk, Queen Iau called out,”O daughter what have you done! To let this further darkness take you is too much. I had tried to be forgiving, but this you have brought upon yourself.”   Jumping down from her throne, the celestial court vanished and was replaced by a wide plain at the foot of the World Tree. Along one edge was a wide river of fire, and dark mountains loomed in the distance. Iau, the Creatrix, stalked until she faced her daughter across the field. Lifting her head to the wind, Iau called out, “Urrau, my Consort, Kindler of the purifying flame, your claws are needed. Fir’ath, my son who has explored the depths of reality, Bring your wisdom and magic to my aid. Keepers of the string, here is one who seeks the unraveling; Sef, Hu’au, Reh-t, your duty is clear. Frea’ha, daughter of earth and leaf, this is a blight on the land and must be destroyed. Hrau’f, Whisperer and keeper of secrets, your claws shall rend this abomination. Urra’ha, rough son of my anger, here is a throat for you to bite and ears to shred. Bright Aaurh, avenge me with teeth and claw. Grri’al, your ingenuity and forethought make you often underestimated.”   One by one as the great queen was speaking those she called appeared on the chosen battlefield. When Iau fell silent and dropped her head, all assembled bowed as Urrau paced forward and bowed, “What is your will my Queen?”   Seeing this, sa’Rrahh changed into the form of a huge dark serpent, and the fight was on. Aaurh turned herself into a serpent of light and the two twisted their way around the tree and the others surrounded and attacked. Eventually, as had many pantheons before Queen Iau and her children threw down the Destroyer and with much sadness returned it (along with sa’Rrahh) to the Chained One’s oblivion.   Laughing with maddess sa’Rrahh disappeared, her final words a curse on creation. That curse slipped past the wards of Queen and Court and fled into the darkness. Over time, this curse has grown and waited for the moment when it can free its master,   In roughly 800 Founding, that curse found a man in the city of Dromach. A human wizard named Ollamaas Thhold, who longed for a way to overcome death and ruling it instead, When the curse offered itself to him, the human barely paused.   As the spirit and power of the curse bonded with the mage, it transformed hims from an ordinary mortal into a demi-god. A demigod with a fascination for death and the driving desire to unleash his Father, Tharizdun.
