Sehanine

The Moon-Weaver

Sehanine the Moon-Weaver is originally an elven deity, consort to Corellon, but ascended to become the sole goddess of night and the moon after the Dawn War. She is a capricious lady, changeable as the moon itself; she's the patron of illusionists and tricksters who work under the cover of darkness. But she is also the goddess of love, who draws a soft veil of shadows over couples when they meet under her light.
Sehanine has many different depictions, but she usually takes the form of a gorgeous young moon elf woman with long, flowing black hair that seems to glitter with stars.
Though she is not one to hold grudges, Sehanine has a long-standing, mostly one-sided rivalry with Llolth. When she was still Araushnee, she and Sehanine were lovers, but now the Spider Queen is so overtaken by hatred that she will sometimes even compel her followers to sacrifice surface elves (and dark elf deserters) under the night sky, in full view of Sehanine. Even so, she still loves Araushnee, and believes that some part of her yet lives inside of Llolth. She gladly adopts dark elves who have left the Underdark in memory of her lost love. With their help, she works to silently undermine Llolth's work in the hopes of eventually finding a chance to speak to her.

Divine Domains

Sehanine is the goddess of night and darkness, but hers is a gentle darkness: the soft veil of sleep, or of summer nights where lovers rendezvous under the stars. She's the weaver of dreams and illusions, and an occasional matchmaker.
Of all the elven races, the Moon Weaver has a special fondness for drow who have turned away from Llolth to bask in her light. Araushnee was once darkly beautiful just like them, so they remind Sehanine of who her lover once was. Some dark elves who follow Sehanine actively work to infiltrate drow society and draw more of their people into the light, with the hope of eventually redeeming Llolth herself and bringing back Araushnee.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Sehanine's symbol is a crescent moon with a bowstring tied to its points, like a bow.
