Purple Gold Material in Vernelis | World Anvil

Purple Gold

Written by UmbralGoat

Purple Gold is a very rare metal used throughout the Celestial Empire to mint its currency. It's named "purple", like other volinized metals, for the slight purple shimmer it takes on due to the magical energy imbued within it.

One of the largest sources of this metal is the mines of Taretaglia, making up a majority of the gold used for the Empire's currency.

Trade

As a consequence of gold's very dense nature, transporting large quantities of it across the oceans is very difficult for the typical trade airships. Larger, more powerful ships were commissioned by Taretaglia to assist, and as a result, no other cargo is permitted to be transported with the gold, as to shed unnecessary weight. This has allowed Taretaglia, and other nations with similar mines, to sell their metals much further throughout the world.

Properties

The magical properties of Purple Gold in particular have been useful in the creation of the Celestial Dral, a small, but valuable coin. Not only does its purple shimmer help in preventing counterfeits, manipulation of the energy within the material allows it to manifest in a very strange, non-euclidean way. Specifically, the Dral's most notable feature is the square hole that appears in the center of the coin on one side, but not on the other. It's believed this manipulation of magic makes them technically less valuable than purely mined Purple Gold, but makes them nigh-impossible to recreate by the general public.
