The Undying Lich king whos name is used only in whispers - Vecna - began his conquest of the world. With his General Kas by his side and an army of thousands of undead, he wiped out broken city-states that were already weakened by the Chromatic War, adding them to his undead legion. It was at the holy city of Sacrosanct that his advance was halted. With the combined effort of the Dawnfather, the Eternal Watcher, the Raven Queen, and their loyal devotees, Vecna was defeated at Sacrosanct in a devestating battle that left the city in ruins.
