Racial Biases

While many have put down grudges for the sake of everyone's continue life on Velucia, that does not mean everyone is friendly or treated equally. The following are general biases the races of Velucia find themselves viewed through.
  • Humans - Seen by most others as short tempered or overly prideful. The Erritian Empire 's rule across Velucia has left many folk wary and mistrustful of humans. This is especially true for those that have not spent much time with humans.
  • Wood Elves - Aloof and distant, determined recluses of the highest order. Thanks to their lack of contact outside The Greatwood and the fierce protection of their home they are often a mystery to others. They are often very quiet when outside their home and are seen as something of a dangerous but even-tempered mystery outside the Greatwood.
  • High Elves - Useful but Dangerous, the High Elves are often avoided by strangers. Thanks to their madness that has gripped them for the last 50 years and the unpredictable nature their madness brings, many people are simply afraid of them. Worried of stories that they will turn without warning and kill someone, raving the entire time.
  • Half-Elves - No one is ever quite sure what to make of the half-elves. Some treat them like their prideful human ancestors, others think them aloof or mad with no distinction being formed between full and half-elf. As such they have a rather rough time blending into society and many come from broken homes with one parent having gone mad or left to return to the Greatwood.
  • Stone Dwarves - Considered the friendliest and most well natured of the dwarves, they are generally trusted and welcome by others. They are however rarely seen outside their mountain home and so many have not had a chance to meet them.
  • Ironblood Dwarves - considered surly and gruff by most, they are at least trusted. They have a culture that makes trespasses and slights a punishable offense however so many avoid contact to avoid dealing with their ire.
  • Golden Dwarves - Shrewd businessmen and stunning craftsmen they are looked upon by most with disgust. They have an abundance of wealth and delight in decorating themselves with garish amounts of gold and jewels of their own design, leaving most others jealous of them.
  • Halflings - Though not overly common, the halflings are rather well liked. Viewed by many as being weak and easy to bully they have still made a name for themselves as excellent brewers, cooks, and handymen. They are generally friendly though their demeanor can make some feel uncomfortable as they tend to talk quickly and ramble for long periods.
  • Half-Orcs - Treated with even more caution than High elves, Half orcs are generally thought of as stupid brutish people, though this is not usually the case. They are often mocked by others for their heritage with any number of disparaging remarks about their parentage. Most must endure this as any fight between a half-orc and another person usually falls against the orcish side.
  • Tieflings - Although numerous stories circulate of the Tieflings frightful powers, they aren't actually demonic. Many people still treat them as though they are and this is likely due to how rarely they are seen in Candriss. However, the fear of their power has led to a certain courtesy being innately given to those in the city, often much to the dismay to patronized Tiefling.
  • Dragonborn - Many stories abound of the Dragonborn. Some call them the servants of the terrifying beasts they get their name from, others think of them as cursed humans. Any way you look at it they are not a well-loved people, often being treated poorly out of a misunderstanding of their race and generally seen as deceitful.
  • Aasimar - Although some claim they descend from angels, the Aasimar are generally considered freaks. They are often pale, never burning nor tanning, with fair or white hair and odd eye colors. Many believe them to be bad luck and avoid their company, but a small portion believes them messengers of the gods and give them near deific reverence.
  • Gnomes - Truly rare to be seen, the Gnomes are an enigma to most others. Although not recluses, they are tight-lipped with their technology, for good reason, and as such are hard to understand. However, whenever one is found they are treated well by any but the most unscrupulous characters as their knowledge can be of great use and they are known to pay back any help received.
  • Arakocra, Kenku, Tabaxi, and Firbolg - The group of these are so rare, that almost no bias has been formed. Most look upon them with awe, fear, curiosity or disgust when first meeting them. Their customs are not well known and the way they are treated is almost always with caution unless the person has run into one before.
