The Broken Cross of New Errath

"The Errathi of old were a sceptical folk, certainly. Everywhere those nomads went they sought after the gods, the great creators. Only to be answered with the imaginations of barbarians, conmen, and idiots.   And yet, the Tomes of Burzhuul, the Shards of Fire, and the miracle of prayer all prove the existence of the gods.   However, if there truly was a god here, the Errathi would have found it. And yet, after centuries upon centuries of searching, they found nothing. There really only is one conclusion. The Creators have abandoned us.   So let us pray for their return, let us pray for their salvation.   Let us defend ourselves from the unenlightened fools, show ourselves stronger than their evil. Show ourselves worthy of the gods' favour upon their eventual return.   Through us, these lands shall be holy once more!   Through us, Holy Errath will rise again!"

The paladins of Errath

The Broken Cross is a zealous religious militia, unified in New Errathi belief. Their goal is to spread their religion across the globe, all the while cleansing it from infidels, to summon their missing creator gods back to Earth and earn salvation. They recruit soldiers from Errathi sects everywhere on Earth and have centralised in Shinburzhuul, colloquially known as "the Citadel": a massive autonomous walled city in the middle of the Nevada desert in the USA. There are no roads that lead to it. Travelers wishing to visit must be led by an experienced guide. Travel is ill-advised, however, unless you have pledged yourself to the New Errathi belief.   The origins of the Broken Cross and Shinburzhuul are believed to be a refugee ship fleeing after the destruction of the city of Errath in Africa. On their arrival in the American continent, they were unwelcomed by many native tribes. Unwilling to give up on the new land, the refugees fled further inland until they settled in Nevada, where they were able to ally with the native Tso'hua population, who themselves were at war with the surrounding tribes.

The miracle of prayer

It is speculated that the Tso'hua carried a variant of a Katarai gene that uncharacteristically doesn't produce any physical mutations (perhaps a descendant of those at the nearby Refugium Teselotl). Due to the dominant nature of the Katarai gene, it quickly spread throughout the now allied groups. This gene may have also explained their war with the surrounding tribes. Katarai are natural warlocks, often misidentified as devils or their worshippers. The greatest strengths of the Tso'hua warlocks did not lie in their individual Tulpathic abilities, but rather in their synchronised collective rituals. Together, their unimpressive abilities would mount to incredible feats of power. They rained down devastating thunderstorms on their enemies, summoned Conglomerate Mindspawn to build incredible structures for them.   The Katarai Gene   Due to their alliance, the Religion of the New Errathi refugees was quickly adopted by the natives, while the Tulpathic abilities of the Tso'hua was carried over to the newcomers. The Errathi traditions integrated into the Tso'hua rituals. Collective Tulpathic prayer sessions harvested conglomerate mana to be used among the faithful.   Tulpathy

The Final Stronghold

Their settlement grew into the theocratic metropolis now named Shinburzhuul. The religion sporadically spread across North-America, but was eradicated by the arrival of Christian colonists and the Lunar pact. Only Shinburzhuul still stands. A deal was struck with the Lunar Pact, that in turn for their guaranteed continued survival, Shinburzhuul would not spread their ideology or influence beyond the city.   The Lunar Pact   The Broken Cross was the religious militia created to protect against the invading colonists. They use anti-christian imagery to agravate their old enemy, as well as Tso'hua and Errathi symbolism to represent their cultural origins. Specifically the esotheric symbols in the Errathi "Tomes of Burzhuul", after which their city was named, are prevalent in their visual presentation.   Recently the Broken Cross have been treading on the verge of conflict with the Lunar Pact after breaking their deal of seclusion on multiple occasions, starting sects in Europe and Asia, and attempting to spread their influence to the Nemestra Katarai.
