Grimweave Cloak

Light of a Soul

An excerpt of a university class transcript in Eo' Wissae covering Silhouettes.
Everyone that still holds claim of their own mortal soul sheds at least a little light, though not visible to living, flesh-bound eyes that inhabit the average mortal's skull. You see, it is this light that the Silhouettes actively hunt... crave. They are still drawn to all manner of visible light, of course, but the only variation of the Fadelight's gift that does not actively harm or impede them is that of an uncorrupted mortal soul. Silhouettes, as you may have guessed, are the unfortunate men and women that were either caught in The Gloom for too long, or were killed by another Silhouette. Similar to Zombies in this regard - those slain by the entity are inevitably turned into one. The process, however, is much more gruesome. Unfortunately, that will be the topic of another lecture.

Cloth of the Night

The garments that are colloquially known as Grimweave Cloaks originate from the highly reclusive and xenophobic Wood Elf clans of Vasara. The cloaks seem to be made of a fine silk, often times being quite elaborate in the ornamentation found about them. There is one commonality among all of these items, however - they reek of The Gloom. When these items are worn, they are able to mask the light one's soul sheds. These have proven incredibly useful in avoiding Silhouettes and other shade-like beings that lurk in the ever-lasting murk. These items are highly sought after by merchants, vagabonds, and adventurers alike due to its properties; they are, however, very few in number due to their production being a tightly kept secret of the Wood Elves.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

It is still not fully understood what makes a Grimweave Cloak able to conceal the light of a mortal soul. Scholars of The Wissan Dominion have narrowed it down, however, to being pulled from a material known as Umbersilk made from Lunamites - a mutated silk worm.

Significance

These items allow mortals that still maintain their own soul within them to walk among the Silhouettes without being immediately attacked and turned. A huge boon to those that travel between the Elysian Bastions, of course.
