Gildborn Remains

Written by World Smithy

A Brief

The Gildborn are people that are born with Aureosis, a mutation that turns one's bones into pure gold without sacrificing normal functionality. When this mutation started is still little more than speculation by modern scholars of The Wissan Dominion. What is known, however, is that these people were once revered as divine entities among mere men. Though, at other times, these people were deliberately hunted down and harvested for a quick payday. Whatever remains of the ancient Gildborn are often found in dank crypts, dusty caverns, and ruins of once-flying cities that dotted the skies.

History

As mentioned, it is unknown of when the first instance of Aureosis started the peoples known as the Gildborn, but it is thought to have predated The Dominion of Vasan. As a result of their ambiguous origins, the Gildborn have never known their own creed or color, and often integrate in whatever society they find themselves in. Early civilizations across Vasara saw these people as divine entities among them, and many were revered for their abilities and looks. It is thought that the first emperor of Vasan was a Gildborn, but that claim has never been proven to date.

On the flip side, Gildborn that found themselves living in more hostile cultures and civilizations would often be hunted or run off. Many of the barbarian tribes that were found in the south of the continent were known for outright murdering any who exhibited the affects of Aureosis. These tribes would harvest the bones of the Gildborn and make macabre jewelry and trinkets out of them.

Significance

Many Gildborn remains are smuggled through the Elysian Bastions of today, and are sold in less-than-reputable locations to black market dealers. Those that are found and brought back legitimately are often donated to universities, artificer's guilds, or museums for the public to be exposed to the condition.
