Gnol-Dotera Character in Varzzen | World Anvil

Gnol-Dotera

Gnol-Dotera, the Weaver of Words, is a goddess of the Order Pantheon. She created the long-lived luni to be her explorers of the world. Gnol-Dotera is the goddess of knowledge, exploration, and nocturnal serenity, drawing devotees dedicated to excavating the world's most concealed secrets and teaching what they learned across the expanses of the known realms.

Appearance

Gnol-Dotera manifests as an ethereal luni with expansive parchment-like wings intricately inscribed with ancient secrets in forgotten languages. Her luminescent eyes gleam softly, with starry patterns reminiscent of the tranquil night sky. Draped in midnight blue robes adorned with silver embroidery, she stands gracefully, crowned with a delicate crescent moon that solidifies her dominion over the night. In one hand she wields a staff crowned with a lantern, casting a subtle, guiding luminescence — a beacon for seekers of knowledge. Her other hand cradles a hallowed tome, ever-poised to immortalize newfound wisdom.

Symbols

Gnol-Dotera's symbol is a quill delicately crafted to resemble a moth's fuzzy wing. Runes in the luni language decorate the quill shaft. The symbol is carved from wood and painted in shimmering blues and silvers or sculpted from precious sapphires and opals. At the quill's tip, a stylized drop of ink is depicted, ready to fall, embodying the sacred act of recording knowledge. In religious ceremonies, this droplet is dipped in ink, solidifying the symbol's role as a conduit for Gnol-Dotera's blessings.

Commandments

  • Preserve the old, embrace the new, and write it down for others to pursue. Let not the threads of wisdom fray.
  • Seek silence for your deepest thoughts. In quiet reflection, wisdom is sought. Wisdom whispers; it does not shout. In stillness, find what life is about.
  • Knowledge grows when it is shared. Teach others; show them care. Enlighten minds, ignite a spark.

Myth

Gnol-Dotera created the luni and graced them with the gift of a long life and an insatiable thirst for knowledge, ensuring their lives would be dedicated to the pursuit of understanding. Upon their passage to the afterlife, the souls of her followers are welcomed into the sacred halls of Bibliotheca Aeternum. In this timeless sanctuary, they are provided with parchment and ink and entrusted with the sacred task of meticulously chronicling every aspect of their existence. Once their Soul Foliant is complete, they are reborn granted another lifetime to satiate their hunger for knowledge and continue their journey of discovery.
