Archbishop Fraulinde Brenntring
Description
Archbishop Brenntring towers over most formicoids, with cold and piercing dark eyes that seem to analyze every fault in citizen and structure alike. Her sleek black chitin blends seamlessly into the black robes traditional to the priesthood of Chitas, along with the pendant of Chitas’s Hammer carved from smooth black stone. She always carries an architect’s compass with her.History
Fraulinde Brenntring was born in 292 AH, in the Cavanan capital city of Ïsa’leza. During her determination exams, Fraulinde excelled in her knowledge of both the foremost textbooks of architecture and the Tomes of Order. Naturally, she was apprenticed to the city’s foremost Temple of Chitas. There, she and her fellow acolytes dutifully served then-Archbishop Caeso Nunti, performing religious rites as well as designing and overseeing the construction of Ïsa’leza’s new tunnels and buildings. While the other acolytes of the temple experimented with new methods and techniques, Fraulinde’s blueprints never faltered from the traditions imparted by the Manual of Civilization. Her dedication to her craft and her goddess allowed her to rise through the ranks until she ascended to Archbishop Nunti’s personal circle of advisors.
When the Tunnel War broke out in 313 AH, Fraulinde, like all her formicoid brethren, was nervous, but she continued to perform her duties for the sake of Ïsa’leza without hesitation. Archbishop Nunti, on the other hand, considered the security of his far-reaching flock to be paramount, and immediately set off on an expedition to strengthen the tunnels of Cavana’s frontiers. Unfortunately, he and his assistants were caught off guard by a Detrinian scouting party in 314 AH, and he lost his life in the ensuing carnage. Once news of the Archbishop’s death reached Ïsa’leza, an emergency election was held immediately, to elect a new Archbishop to the Council of Grandmasters. Fraulinde was nominated, alongside bishops from other prominent Cavanan cities. She ended up being elected Archbishop by the other members of the Council. At the age of 22, the newly appointed Archbishop Brenntrig recognized her position as a junior member of the council, and always deferred to the opinions and positions of the more established grandmasters, rarely making her own opinions known - but those opinions always laid with established tradition.
As the war raged on, Archbishop Fraulinde’s concern always lay with Cavana itself, even when other nations of the Hexagon were drawn into the sphere of violence. Once she had established herself as a trusted member of the Council of Grandmasters, she pushed for the fortification of Ïsa’leza’s defenses, and steadfastly refused to compromise on any diplomatic positions, internal or external. Once the war ended, she pressed for the immediate restoration of destroyed cities throughout Cavana. When Anastasia was elected queen five years after the war, Fraulinde expected the youthful queen to listen to the advice of her elders, much as she herself once had. After all, Anastasia was both younger than Fraulinde (if only by 12 years) and had spent less time on the council. However, Anastasia had other ideas.
Present
As an elder member of the Council of Grandmasters, Archbishop Fraulinde carries herself with dignity and pride. She continues to abide strictly by the traditions she learned as a child, and expects everyone around her to follow suit. Unfortunately for her, Queen Anastasia’s focus on new methods of diplomacy have significantly soured the relationship between the two. They clash over the status of cities that were destroyed by the White Flood, and how much of Cavana’s resources should be put towards their restoration. The ghost town of Krith has become a particular point of contention. The Queen and the Archbishop have also clashed regarding Anastasia’s underhanded methods of achieving her goals, which Fraulinde sees as nothing but an invitation for chaos. She believes that truth, light, and order will achieve far more than lies and shadows ever could. As Cavana continues to change around her, Archbishop Fraulinde serves as a steadfast rock in its society, and will continue to do so for the rest of her days.
