While often found in the ocean, they have been occasionally been spotted in large bodies of freshwater. Typically the brighter colorful individuals will reside in shallower waters. The deeper lurking darker ones will often have bioluminescent lighting on their bodies.
They can only live outside water for a limited time requiring to be kept damp.
