Eona and Belmera, Twin Goddesses of the Moon, Beauty, Night, and Winter (E-oh-na/Bel-Meer-ah)

"Eona and Belmera, we see them in the sky every night. But I don't think anyone really pays them any mind, at least not the common rabble. Their priestesses though, there are no others who hold them in higher esteem. Though if you ask me, they come off as rather cold and unfeeling. But maybe that's just my bias talking, the sun has always been my comfort." ~ Morgana Naice, High Priestess of Kirana     The twins Eona and Belmera are dark reflections of the All Mother Kirana. As Kirana laid claim to the High Heavens and sun, so too did the Twins claim the moons and the night sky as their own. Mirroring and twisting the light of Kirana's sun into a pale, cold and ghostly reflection of itself to wash across the realms as darkness falls. The Twins watch with glee each night as Kirana fumes within her Citadel. The All Mother forced to witness the night, and in turn the Twins, dominate her perfect vision of the worlds.   Eona, the Goddess of Beauty and Winter, is regarded by other members of the Twelve as the most beautiful among them. A matter agreed upon by most mortal depictions of the goddess. She is prayed to by many of all ethoi across the mortal plane, and even beyond in some cases. The desire for beauty is not solely a mortal desire after all. Eona has also claimed the Winter season as her domain. The calm, undisturbed purity of the winter's fresh fallen snow reflects Eona's beauty in a way no other medium can. Resulting in many to depict her dress in white, with long white hair flowing down her shoulders. It is taught among the Church of the Twins that snow is the crystallized desire of Eona to remake the landscape to match her vision of what is beautiful. The soft snowfalls that many associated with tranquility, reflect the goddess at peace. While blizzards and other violent winter storms are considered to be Eona bringing her wrath to bear against the realm as a reminder that even a goddess of beauty is capable of anger and destruction.   Belmera, in contrast, is the Goddess of the Night and Starlight. When Kirana retreats from the sky and the Twins lay claim to the darkness that follows, Belmera watches over the realms from her seat in the Shadowfell. All activities committed under the moonlight and in the shadows of this time are encouraged by Belmera. She derives joy from watching what devious plans unfold in the darkness. Which has led some to consider Belmera among the Evil aligned deities, though perhaps not fully leaning into evil tendencies. Assassins and thieves regard her as their patron goddess, as more often than not their activities occur long after the sun has set. Due to this, the Church of the Twins has a strict watch upon it from the Paladins of Aeranas, to ensure that no illicit sacrifices are made within the temple walls by the criminality. As a result, there are many secret shrines scattered though the cities and the surround landscape where these individuals may seek Belmera's blessing before their bloody work. Clerics of the Church of the Twins teach also that the stars are a creation of Belmera to honor her sister's image of beauty in Belmera's domain.   Clerics of the Twins tend to be calm, collected individuals with varying opinions of what beauty entails. All however, welcome and encourage among the populace the pursuit of that beauty by whatever means they see fit. Some members of the church include Artificers that augment their body with arcane enhanced technology. Others practice the application of tattoos to provide not only aesthetically pleasing modifications, but enchantments beneath the skin in a more organic manner than their tinkering counterparts. A vast majority of clerics of the Twins are graced with enhanced vision in darkness, Belmera's domain, and the ability to grant that vision to others as they see fit. Albeit for a short period of time. These clerics thrive and are at their most powerful while basking in the light of the twin moons, as their connection to the goddesses is at its peak. Nights when both moons are full, occurring roughly twice every month, are nights when ceremonies to the Twins are performed to seek their blessings and beseech them for answers to whatever may be troubling their faithful. Such ceremonies have open invitations to all who wish to observe them.
