Elf

Elves are the most populous race on the continent of Eleron. Descended from the Fey of the Feywild, Elves retain some of their innate magic.

Biology

The defining feature of elves is their biological adaptability. The region in which an elf spends their formative years will impose physical changes on their bodies. For example, an elf that was born in the forest, but is moved to the desert for a majority of their youth will develop darker skin, and certain magical abilities more suitable for surviving in desert climates. Once these physiological traits are established at around 20 years of age, they are set in stone for the rest of that elf's life, although, there may be advanced magics that can "restart" the process later in life. Due to this, most elves don't have strong attachments to their ethnic identity as any particular kind of elf. Rather, they define themselves by an adherence to a particular ideology.

Culture

The largest of these ideological groups is known as the Ren Enthea (Sun Elves), and are defined by strong faith in and devotion to the gods. The next largest group is the Ren Raltha (Wood Elves), who instead pledge allegiance to the Archfey of the Feywild. A third group is the Ren Thratha (Moon Elves), who revere the goddess Eilistra above all others.   Another popular ideology revolves around a devotion to the planet itself, and serves as a rejection of the other groups' adherence to extraplanar beings. These are referred rather derogatorily as Ren Kethra (Wild Elves) by other elves.   There are some groups of elves that do have strong attachments to their type of elf, and will stay out in a particular region to ensure their bloodline remains pure, but these are rare.   This changeable nature leads to elves being particularly curious and driven by a desire to explore new lands, to see what new racial features might develop in unexplored territory. Many elves have made voyages to Vandrius and the Vandrian Archipelago to raise their children in these new lands.   In the rare case that an elf is constantly moving throughout their young life, that elf will not develop traits of any environment, and will be simply, an elf. These elves are thought of as strange, and often ostracized. There are roving bands of these elves who travel all the lands of Eleron as traders, minstrels, and vagabonds.   Gender is a foreign concept to elves. They can undergo a simple ritual to manifest the necessary body parts for reproduction, but do not feel any particular attachment to either. Some elves will present in ways that may be considered particularly masculine or feminine, but typically do not identify as any gender.
