Volterra Kodanza

Volterra Kodanza was a famous military hero during the Third Dragon War. He is most well known for slaying the dragon Naqirrus. After the war, he became a demigod. The Knights of Volterra Kodanza were created in his honor. He was born in southern Kos to a noble family. His father was a vassal lord of a modest size town, and they served the local dragon lord of the area. Growing up, Volterra learned swordfighting and horseback riding, and he had a particular knack for strategy. As a young man, he became the captain of the town guard and was set to inherit his father's title. He was viewed as a fair but strict captain, and the guard was held to high standards. He enacted punishment rarely, but he was brutal when he did to set an example for everyone else. When war broke out, Volterra was among the first to pledge himself to the rebelling humans. He was distrusted at first and given a minor role overseeing supply trains and distributing food. But, he quickly proved himself to be worthy of the task and greater things. He was switched to battlefield command when another officer was killed in battle, and he was the only one available to take charge. This formed the basis of what would become his personal unit. They saw action first at the Battle of Holmera's Hill and suffered few casualties. The unit continued to see action at the Action at Veluinessan, the Battle of Gelvito, the Battle of Onteras Wood, the Siege of Renairas, and the Second Battle of Cosanti. By then, he was near the southern edge of the mountains on the eastern side of Kos. The Galag Rok forces there were led by Lord Khoradal and his dragon Naqirrus. While Naqirrus was left in his mountainous cavern, Volterra led his men up the mountain in secret where they snuck up on the dragon and slew him in his hall. Volterra cut the dragon's head off as a trophy. Though he wasn't the first Dragonslayer, he became one of the more well known. After the war, he began having strange dreams and inklings to leave his small town where he tried to settle down as the town governor in the wake of his father's death. Though he tried to resist at first, they became impossible to ignore, and eventually, he set off to the Heart of the World where he met with Fate and ascended to godhood. The guard he left behind organized themselves into the first Knights of Volterra Kodanza and swore to live up to their captain's example. As a god, he is the patron of military officers and is a paragon for good leadership. Shrines to him often invoke the lance he used to slay the dragon and the dragon's hall and treasured which he claimed for his own. His lineage continued for several generations.
