Menkara; the moon touched

Menkara (a.k.a. The Moon Touched, Son of Fire and War)

Across the ancient desert there were many that practiced the worship of the Imposing Serpent, Satep, the being destined to swallow the Sun. These cults infiltrated most of the land in secrecy, but became careless as their power grew. They revealed their true intent, the threat they posed, believing that no one could stop them. Yet there were many that would stand against them, defying their god. One of these was Menkara, the Son of Fire and War. He rode upon a chariot pulled by horses blessed of the Four Goddesses. He would become the spear tip against these cults and the tens of thousands hypnotized to stand as their armies.   Menkara would be struck down in his prime, slain under a rain of poisoned arrows in the streets of Sakatep, but his legacy lives on to this day. He has become a symbol of defiance and personal strength, associated with rebellion. There is little recorded on his life, though his legend is told by many. Some portray him as a mighty hero and a great leader, others as a humble sword wielding priest. Many stories depict him as a tragic hero, a powerful figure who was undone by his arrogance, and love for his family.

Personal history

As a child, Mankara was known for his martial prowess, and seemingly relentless endurance. Though, being the second son, he was destined to become a priest, and so on his sixth year, was sent from his home to study the will of the gods. His destiny, it would seem, was to be chosen by one of the pantheon as many of his fellow students and to serve his older siblings as a religious advisor.   Restless during the teachings, Menkara found great difficulty accepting his lot in life. How could he be expected to simply support others, to speak the will of the gods and allow the fates to run its course. A troublesome student, Menkara would question, though not defy, the role of the priesthood. When the servants of Satep that had wormed into the school were revealed, Menkara slew one before the alter to the Goddess of the Moon, blood splattering onto it.   That night, in a vision a servant of the Goddess came and spoke to him, telling him that she had received the sacrifice given to her. His true calling was revealed, that he should root out the evil that had festered in the land, crushing the snake before it could sink its fangs into the heart of civilization. So Menkara arose, and left towards his home. In each place he stopped in he called them to arms, leading a great host against the cultists, from the priests he received his armaments to destroy the evil.   The anguish that Menkara felt must have been unbearable, when he saw that the root evil he was called to destroy came from the city he once called home. Those he was supposed to advise and heal were those that he must cull. With a heavy heart he set his armies in besieging the city. As he walked through the city, his life would be taken by poisoned arrows.

Educated by the priests of the many gods, he would spend the majority of his childhood to his coming of age being taught. His teachings revolved around the gods, but also skills like math, geography, and herbalist techniques.
