Unit W

I really would like to become a tactician... But no one lets me unless I have field training... So can I be part of Unit W? Please?
— Fumbling child of Wyntran power

The children of nobility. The wealthy sons and daughters seeking field training to advance through the ranks of the Wyntran political scheme. The most powerful of Wyntra searching for trust among the public, relatability.

For Show

In reality, Unit W is nothing but a gimmick - an act of patriotism and class unity, but truly just a performance to appease the media. They swear to fight alongside the soldiers of Tallos, but the 'powerful warriors' of the unit sit in the background, only fighting the so-called easy battles.

This dynamic was heavily orchestrated by the managers of the battalions and units themselves, including the king of Wyntra himself. The entire system was built to benefit the monarchy and its future rulers, with the full knowledge of all members of this higher power of sorts.

Well, we wouldn't be risking any noble blood, of course.
— King Lucius, at a development meeting

Inexperience

One of the numerous reasons why Unit W is kept on the sidelines of the 'real fighting' is because they are so very lacking in training. They have not been groomed for manual labor, not in their competitive academies and universities they were defaulted to acceptance for. They are the caste destined to sit in court meetings and pull the puppet strings, never meant to be the puppets themselves.

You see, I've never fought in an actual battle before...
— Unit W 'veteran'

If they begin ignorant to any kind of physical warfare strategy, they graduate just as unfamiliar. Most have never even come into combat, using military status as a launchpad for future opportunities; being involved in the tactical aspects of war (the puppet master).

Tallos Disapproval

While much of Wyntra, even the outer sectors (while the genuiness of their praise is to be debated) is in apparent awe of this unit's 'unadulterated bravery and undiluted determination', Tallos has an opposing viewpoint. They think of it as almost an insult to what they have been forced to do - something that discards their labor as nothing but a medal, or a badge. They are very public about this distaste that they hold, and Wyntra couldn't care in the slightest; Tallos is of little mind to them.
