Sun's-Glory Upon the Water
Anteus has long been known for its master ship-builders, but their finest work by far is Sun's-Glory Upon the Water. This magnificent barge was built to fulfill a King's request for a floating palace, and to display his wealth and power for all the world--or at least that part of the world that visits the stretch of river where Sun's-Glory can be safely sailed.
The ship is indeed a palace, with two full stories of gold and azure pillars surrounding staterooms, ballrooms, suites, and even a large garden. Below deck are servant quarters, galleys, kitchens, and store rooms--though the ship still requires frequent resupply from shore, particularly of the fresh foods expected by the royal passengers. Though not the only royal palace, Sun's-Glory is a favorite and the king is very commonly in residence.
Propulsion
Sun's-Glory has triangular sails mounted along its length, but they are quite small for the size and weight of the vessel and do little in terms of actual propulsion. There is a rowing galley, rarely in use, which allows the grand ship to be moved downstream at a somewhat quicker pace, or which can move the ship upstream with the assistance of a towing vessel. Most of the time, the ship is either anchored or allowed to gradually drift with the current.
Armor and defense
Though the ship does not have any armament or specific defenses, it was built to last and nearly all of the hull is metal-coated. It also travels with a contingent of the Anteian Guard specializing in archery, and an honor guard of military vessels.
Additional & auxiliary systems
The most impressive part of Sun's-Glory, from an engineering standpoint, is well-hidden beneath the ship's gleam and glamour. A complex system of pipes and filters allows water to run through the ship itself to the many baths and spigots located in the luxury quarters and cooking galleys. As the pressure is maintained by the river itself, this system only functions if the ship is properly aligned, with the bow facing upstream. Fortunately, as turning is not one of the floating palace's better abilities, it was made to travel smoothly either forward or backward, so this does not generally pose an issue.
Hangars & docked vessels
There are two rafts that can detach from the sides of the Sun's-Glory, ferrying passengers and cargo to and from shore. It is also attended by a small flotilla of other ships, including yachts and other pleasure vessels, a military honor guard, and at least one alchemy-powered vessel capable of towing the palace upstream.
