Arcadia

A brief guide to Arcadian Life
The Glory of Arcadia spans centuries ago from the beginning our humble lands were thought to be forgotten to time due to mysterious means still not known by modern Alchemists.

Geography

Arcadia as a whole is a cold continent, ranging from -80 degrees Fahrenheit to 40 degrees. Snow falls nearly year-round, where the first and 6th month is the only reprieve from nature's wintery grasp. Closer to the center of the land, a vast forest begins to branch into the outer rim.

Outer Rim

The most hospitable zone in Arcadia, if you don't mind the risk of mild frostbite. It rings around the continent near the shoreline. It is within the Outer Rim that farming, traffic, and business, in general, takes place

Mid Rim

Deeper into the continent lies the Mid Rim. The Mid Rim is less inhabited than the rest of the outer rim due to the arduous hills and dangerous forests. Caves dot its green landscape.

Great Freeze

An inhospitable icy tundra is separating the mountains and forest. The wind that blows here is colder than any in all the rest of Arcadia. The wind can vary in speed from a calm breeze to violent hurricane gales. The wind speed, being volatile, changing without warning, catching even the heartiest adventurers off their most robust guard. There are no known human settlements within The Great Freeze. Even airships are unable to pass through this area for the risk of being battered by the horrific winds. The only suitable area to make camp is within the outskirts of ground zero.

Ground Zero

Mountainous and lifeless, Ground Zero is mainly unexplored, predominantly dangerous, and is the centermost area of the continent. Rumors have it that within the icy hold of this area lays vast amounts of valuable minerals as well as the fiercest of foes able to survive the cold.

Fauna & Flora

Flora

Flowers & Bushes

Evermores: The petals have the appearance of icy water, white steam, and a waxy texture to keep heat in. These flowers are lethal to eat and are taboo to pick, this is due that they are rare to find and are only found near rivers. Angelite: This flower’s pink petals droop down, with a green and white stem. It’s considered a blessing when an Angelite blossoms because it is a 70% chance that this flower will not blossom   Nimi: Sweet, snowflake-like petals are white, as well as the stem, making them glimmer when light is shining onto them. This flower grows in groups in groups near the center of Arcadia, though they are short-lived, only lasting a week.
Silver Berry Bush: Located in the coldest part of Arcadia, making it nearly impossible to get to. This bush is fruitful with white lobate leaves and clear white barriers that are sweet with a sour aftertaste. Consuming too many of these berries would cause you to become disoriented.
Frost Leaves: The leaves are made from icicles that the bush will throw at you when you get to close. The reason these bushes do this is that the plant is territorial. These bushes are in the midsection of Arcadia, near the entrances of caves, and blends into the snow. The way they can tell when someone is encroaching on their territory is by the vibrations.

Fungi

Black Top Mushrooms: These mushrooms are completely black to blend into the darkest parts of caves. They do not spread by the way of spores but do give off spores. The spores cause a person to have a headache if a person is standing around them for a few minutes, which will get worse with prolonged exposure. The headache will then turn into hallucinations, no long after death will follow.

Fauna

Herbivores

Red River Crabs: This unintelligent crab is bulky and a bright red, making it hard for them to hide from predators, though they try. What they lack in camouflage, they make up for in speed, their small legs can move very fast. They mostly eat grass or leaves off a bush, but on rare occasions they will eat a dead fish, making them have a fishy taste.
Faven Reindeer: Bulky, Aggressive Males, Females docile until breeding season. The hide is mostly white in higher areas, brown in the lower areas. Black spots. Antlers are elegant in design, Naturel engravings.
The females are normally docile until mating season, then they become as aggressive as the male. On higher elevations the deer will have white hide while the lower will have brown, both will have black spots. The antlers are elegant, with natural engravings though no one knows why. Their body is completely like that of a deer but bulkier, though they stay the same height and length, not including antlers.

Omnivores

Penguins: These creatures are intelligent, they can make primitive tools, for both defense and offense. They are protective of their territory, throwing rock-filled snow at any intruder. They are a sneaky bunch, stealing from any adventures, anything that is believed to be valuable, trying to mimic the more intelligent life. They live in igloos normally around rivers and will make use of the frost leaves. They will eat berries, crab, and fish.
Tosks: Large bores with sharp tusks that they use to be destructive and will charge anyone and anything on sight. They are located mostly in the forested areas, eating anything that is dead, making them a scavenger.
Bruser: These ferocious beasts are territorial and will use their hard shell to attack anyone that comes to close. They attack by rolling into a ball and will try to run you over or knock you unconscious. They can be found anywhere on Arcadia but in the center, due to the cold.

Carnivores

Land Squids: They are squids but can go onto land and are the second intelligent animal on Arcadia. They stay near the shores of the ocean and then will come onto land to get food, mostly eating the red river crabs. The squids travel in pacts of three when hunting and live in groups of nine.
Mynks: They are small cats that can be domesticated, though they are normally wild. These cats are sociable and travel in small groups of 4 with alpha and the mother of the group is always present. When it comes to hunting the cats will wait for their prey to turn their back before pouncing.
Skyborne Eagle: Eagles that fall into the large category, making where they only hunt medium-sized prey. They are in the mountains, though that means food is scarce making these huge birds endangered. They hunt by zooming towards their prey, carry them high up into the sky, and then drops them.
Mirage: Large cougars that mimic their surroundings before attacking. They are located in forests and sleeps in trees, though if they spot their prey from their sleeping spot, they will fall onto them. Though forests are their habitat they will venter to low lining areas.

Natural Resources

Islands

There have minimal resources, only small deposits of silver

Main Land

The more inwards, the bigger the mineral deposits are, but less can be grown, and people would have to rely more on the meat of the animals to survive. The harsh cold in the middle makes it where nothing can grow, and little amounts of animals live there, but some animals don't rely on plants or animals to survive. The land also contains ingredients for making health potions.
