Stepping Stones

The Stepping Stones are an island chain outside the Bay of Kavesh, connecting to Meridan Island. They contain an estimated 250 islands, most of which are too small to be seen upon the world map. Many of these islands seemingly disappear over the course of years, while new islands reappear elsewhere. The waters surrounding these islands are relatively shallow, with frequent sand bars. Some form of unknown geological activity causes these sand bars to shift, pile up, and then disintegrate into the currents, causing the creation and destruction of these many islands. The unique features of these islands make them ideal hideouts for pirates, who have developed a seeming intuition for the movements of these sandbars, and use them to evade and hide. Using the islands as cover, these pirates raid the shipping lanes going in and out of the Bay of Kavesh, preying on the valuable exports from Corenthia and the Elven Princedom.
