Painter's Supplies

Therapeutic Expression

You can use your Painter's Supplies to create art on a chosen medium, expressing yourself as a means to relax, process, focus, or release. This typically requires a Long Rest of dedicated work. You may wish to describe the thoughts, troubles, or message your character is expressing, and how you visually convey this expression. As a result, the DM may choose to grant a bonus to the character that is related to the roleplay surrounding the expression. Typically, this can be temporary HP equal to the characters proficiency bonus. Other common rewards might be a one time 1d4 bonus to an appropriate ability check, or temporary immunity to a condition (such as frightened or charmed), or perhaps even a revelation, insight, or clue relating to the story.

Tattoo Artistry

You may purchase a set of Tattoo Supplies for 15 gp, which benefit from your Painter's Supplies proficiency. The components of this kit consist of an Aether powered Inkjectâ„¢ needle, several dyes, and a leather portfolio binder for recording and creating designs.   Over time, you can use your Tattoo Supplies to imprint tattoos upon your, or another creatures skin. A small simple design costs 5 gp in dyes and requires a Short Rest. A complex, yet small design costs 15 gp in dyes and requires a Long Rest. A large and complex design, such as a full sleeve, costs 30 gp on average, and would take 3 or more Long Rests to complete.

Spell Tattoos

Spell Tattoos can be created by any character that has spellcasting capability. Doing so follows the same component cost and time cost as crafting a spellscroll (as described using Calligrapher's Supplies). The creature that gains the Spell Tattoo can then cast that spell using the tattoo. The spell uses the tattoo artists Spell Attack Bonus and Spell Save DC. Casting a spell this way is taxing on the body, and costs 1 Hit Die per spell level of the tattoo. If not enough Hit Dice are available, the Spell Tattoo may still be used, and instead the caster rolls dice equal to the unavailable Hit Dice (using the largest hit die size if multiclassed), and takes the resulting roll as unreducible damage. Once the Spell Tattoo is expended, the unpowered imprint of the tattoo remains on the creatures skin. A Spell Slot of equal or greater power than the spell tattoo (or another equivalent source of magical power, such as an Aethershard) can be expended while touching the Spell Tattoo to empower it once more. A humanoid body can have up to 7 Spell Tattoos, one on each arm and leg, the front torso, the back torso, and the head. A spell tattoo can be removed to make room for a new one over the course of a Long Rest.
